Hello

Hello,
I read the linked NY Times article with interest.

http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/2010/04/20/us/AP-US-Day-of-Prayer-Military.html?_r=1

I was saddened to see that you are demanding that Christianity be muzzled.
I understand your feeling about religious freedom and in general I agree with them.
However, Islam has started a war with Western civilization.
Islam is our enemy.
It’s just that simple. To disagree simply denies reality.
Most of us are quite happy with folks like Mr. Graham.

Hi (name withheld)
Thank you for your E-Mail. My name is Rick Baker and I am a regional coordinator for MRFF. Your communication was forwarded to me for response.
I was fortunate to be an Air Force liaison at Fort Hamilton New York in Brooklyn before deployment to Vietnam and count myself as one of the fortunate adopted New Yorkers. There is no better pizza in the world.
Islam may well have started a war with western civilization but the reality is, they have not started it officially with the United States and it’s armed forces. There is no declared war against Islam or Christianity, therefore it remains in the political arena which is country against country. As much as I would agree with you, I am compelled by my former service to America to accept the fact that we fight countries and not religions.
What you would espouse, (name withheld), is a Crusade vs. Jihad. This is an unwinnable scenario. Your goals are admirable but frankly would cast our Republic in the role of aggressor. It would pit Christian against Muslim when, truly, it is more about establishing the political high ground and then tolerance and willingness to understand the opposition.
As happy as we can be with Mr. Graham personally, we must view his anti-Islam stance as an impediment to our advancement in human relations. It is not very satisfying to read my words, when you are angry, and any amelioration is less than welcome.
MRFF is actually in your corner but must adhere to civil and constitutional provisions. Otherwise we are no better than those with whom you disagree. Many less than thoughtful decisions have been made under the duress of religious nationalism.
Let’s stick with what we know best. American fairness and logic. We can defeat Islamic hegemony as long as we don’t try to defeat it with Christian hegemony.
Join us in the rejection of religious control from any source.
Rick Baker
