Gen. Petraeus, the Christian-Right Weasel

Dear Mr. Weinstein:
Lt. Col Wm. McCoy’s book, “Under Orders: a Spiritual Handbook for Military Personnnel,” which pronounced separation of church & state a “twisted idea,” and religion as essential for good soldiers, came w. an endorsement from Gen. David Petraeus -who later tried to claim it was meant for private consumption. Only Mikey Weinstein of the Military Religious Freedom Fn., on a righteous jihad vs. the evangelical takeover of the Air Force Academy etc., fought back and got rapped as “demonic” by zealot Gen. Wm. “My God is Bigger than Theirs” Boykin, author of another book of same ilk, “Never Surrender.” The same Petraeus, whose P.R. hype & acceptance by pols rival that of MacArthur pre-firing, falsified the report on famous friendly-fire victim Pat Tillman in Afghanistan, was rewarded by Obama and today constitutes his “Hail Mary pass” there. Per a 7/21 caller on KPFK’s M.E. in Focus, Petraeus has retreated from his “Israel is endangering our troops” statement in a rapprochement w. neocons like Max Boot, who want to run him for pres. With these birds deeply ensconced, how can anyone refute the widespread belief in the Muslim world that the US military are on a modern-day crusade? – (name withheld)
