Greetings,

I just read an article about the MRFF, this was the first time I’d heard of it, and I just wanted to say thank you. I’m a military brat turned military spouse, and I am constantly seeing examples of the lack of separation of church and state, both in the military and other government institutions (namely public schools). Whether it’s a chaplain praying in Jesus’ name, a Christmas tree at school, or a nativity scene on post, it is disheartening that even the military who supposedly fights for our freedom suppresses it at the same time.

As a Jewish woman, it is hard for me to stand up for myself, because I feel like people just see me as complaining over silly little things. But they’re not silly or little to me. When the chaplain ends a pray with “in Jesus’ name we pray” I am instantly excluded and reminded that it is really only the religious freedom of the majority that is protected in this country. Religious minorities are merely tolerated, and people either attempt to convert them, or damn them to hell. It greatly upsets me that many people see the words “American” and “Christian” as synonyms. Christmas has become an American holiday, and people are often confused that I don’t celebrate it, don’t want to go to Christmas parties (even those charading as “holiday parties”), and how dare I deprive my children of Santa Clause!!!

Thank you for listening and thank you for all you do.

Sincerely,
(name withheld)
