These are tactics of a cult not a mainstream religion

Sir,

I do not know the comprehensive details about Cadets for Christ. But I have read enough to be alarmed about the incident of that group succeeding in isolating a cadet from her family and “shepherding” her into an arranged marriage. These are tactics of a cult not a mainstream religion.

This reminds me of the Peoples Temple Christian Church Full Gospel with Jim Jones as pastor. He was a member of the Communist Party and an atheist. And he used Christianity as a cover to attract followers who were subjected into Stalinist exile and then death.

If I were a terrorist who wants to inflict significant damage to the United States, I would not be driving around in a yellow Ryder truck filled with fertilizer. USAFA is better and better able to deter that kind of threat. (Thank you for those efforts!) Rather, I would use the methods of Jim Jones by recruiting innocent cadets and have them upon graduation infiltrate the Air Force.

So I believe that cadet participation in cults poses a national security threat. Do you have a policy that identifies organizations that have cult tendencies and bans their access to cadets? Is there an effective screening process that excludes cults from the Cadet Sponsor Program?

Sir, you espouse “fanatical” devotion to USAFA. Please do not be passive about fanatics who seek to undermine both USAFA and the Air Force.
