Thirty five letters from former Cadets for Christ out of the hundreds they have “saved” doesn’t really say much for them

Dear Superintendent Lt. Gen. Gould and Chaplains Bruno and Brantingham,

First of all, you have brought these emails and letters upon yourself by allowing and endorsing the Warrick’s in a letter campaign to boost their ratings at the academy. Thirty five letters from former Cadets for Christ out of the hundreds they have “saved” doesn’t really say much for them, does it.

As an ordained minister in the Assemblies of God, I find it absolutely appalling that the USAFA leaders have so blatantly disregarded the oath they have taken to uphold the Constitution and the Department of Defense laws.

Cadets for Christ and their Shepherding Movement is a cult. I printed all of the Warricks’s teachings out before they blocked their site to the public and find their teachings on shepherding/discipleship to be unbiblical to the true meaning of the word. To shepherd someone is to teach them…not to control every aspect of their lives…nor to isolate them from family and friends…nor to pick mates for them. That’s what the Moonies do under Rev. Sun Myung Moon. If it looks like a cult and smells like a cult, it is a cult.

You have people from all walks of life and religions attending your academy. You have mainline Christians attending who never heard of the saying “born again.” I understand what “born again” means but most of them never heard it in the context in which the Warrick’s teach it. When one religious group tells another Christian person that they must have a spiritual birthday by way of being “born again” or “saved” in order to enter heaven they have trampled on the whole Word of God.

We know the words “born again” came from Jesus in response to Nicodemus. But let’s look at just 2 of those verses.

John 3:5-6

Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

The water in verse 5 refers to the flesh and the baby being born out of the bag of waters. This denies any fallen angels from receiving their just rewards because they were created not born of the water or flesh.

Acts 2:21- And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Acts 16:31-And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.

Romans 10:9 – That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

Ephesians 2:8 – For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

God’s own Word says that you are saved by believing and having faith. It’s the Holy Spirit’s job to convict of sin and bring a person to repentance not public confession to your peers or Shepherds.

Cadets for Christ and others like them are what we call “pew stealers”. They confront someone with the question “are you born again” and then woo them into their own denomination. Mainline Christians are taken aback by this because the term is rarely used outside of evangelical fundamentalism. They are made to question their faith and are told they are going to hell if they don’t say the sinner’s prayer. They are taught that their form of Christianity is false and only the evangelical fundamentalism is correct. This is false teaching as per the scriptures above.

The teaching by the Cadets for Christ on a woman’s place is in the home, bearing children and under their husband the shepherd is based on 1 Timothy 2:15 KJV.

Notwithstanding, she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety.

The problem with this translation of this verse is that there is a “the” in front of childbearing in the Greek. This means the birth of Jesus. The Amplified Bible has it correct.

Nevertheless [the sentence put upon women of pain in motherhood does not hinder their souls’ eternal salvation] they shall be saved [eternally] if they continue in faith and love and holiness with self-control [saved indeed] through the Childbearing or by the birth of the Divine Child.

For every female that the Cadets for Christ and you have talked into giving up their dream of becoming a pilot for a male and telling them they must have a “Quiverful” have distorted the true Word of God. Again, this teaching is cultish.

You, gentlemen, are trying to churn out warriors for Christ! Our soldiers fight for our freedoms under the Constitution not under the bible. Is this why you are trying to purge all non-Christians, Christians that are not the “right kind” and homosexuals out of the military? Do you envision a military that fights for the Constitution and our Bill of Rights or for your own interpretation of the Bible? Do you follow the teachings of John Calvin or Martin Luther? If so, you are no longer following the true meaning of scripture but someone’s teachings on it hundreds of years after it was written down.

As the Superintendent of the USAFA, Lt. Gen. Gould, you have the final say at the Academy. I firmly believe you are hiding behind and using the Cadets for Christ, as taught by the Warrick’s, to carry out your own misguided beliefs that a woman should not be a pilot. By using the Cadets for Christ to carry out your mission, your hands are clean of the misogyny that is rampant under your leadership. I would like to know how many females have relinquished their right to be a pilot for a male since the Warrick’s have been teaching at your academy? What steps does a female have to go through in order to give up her dream? Exactly who does she speak to? Does she get any independent counseling on her decision or is it done by people who believe the same way? Who signs off on this?

I suggest that all of you go back over and re-read the oath that you took when you joined the military. Nowhere does it say that you must fight for God and the bible.

As long as there is this type of proselytizing, harassments and beatings by the Cadets for Christ and others like them, we will not go quietly into the night. We will fight for every Cadet that you are trying to win over to your way of thinking by using the bible for your own agenda.

It’s time you clean out and stop allowing Cadets for Christ and any others like them to control the religious atmosphere at the academy and get on with the mission you took an oath to.

Thanks for recognizing that those of us serving to protect your freedoms should be allowed to do so in an environment where no one is being strong-armed to believe in any particular thing.

Your comment about CfC being a “cult” however smacks of that old aphorism about a pot and a kettle. You see, from a rational skeptics point of view, any group that worships an invisible deity through prescribed ritual seems rather cultish.

It is appreciated that you were trying to put in a good word for the military. It was just a little hard to understand with your foot already in your mouth.
