account! Powerful. Do thank this officer for sharing. Two things which
struck me: 1) Religious proselytizing is SO PERVASIVE in the force, even
to the “chitchat” that this officer mentions. Of course, discussions
with friends and coworkers are healthy and normal–I myself have
discussed my non-belief with others at certain times–but when it leads
to exclusion, favoritism, or animosity it should not be allowed. It
leads to an inflated sense of one’s beliefs, such as that cadet who
claimed “they [New Life members] are a majority here [USAFA], and they
should be able to share their beliefs with the Cadet Wing.” 2) So many
decide just to “put up with it”, in a sense, because they fear reprisal,
do not want to deal with the hassle associated with reporting it, or
feel that they are powerless and nothing can be done to rectify the
situation anyways. This is why putting the word out about organizations
such as MRFF is so important. “Obnoxious evangelicals” who insist it is
their duty to hit the rest of us over the head with the light of the
Word beware! And yes, they are great at playing the victim…
