MRFF Featured by the Colorado Springs Independent – Painting hits a nerve for Air Force Academy grads

Mikey,

Colorado Springs is a sinkhole of crazy, on par with the most of Utah.
(Yeah, I’ll go there) I have seen more than one person leave that place
brainwashed by those Christian mega-churches and their money-hungry,
egomaniacal, hatred-spewing, closeted (yeah, I’ll go there too)
“pastors”. This includes a close family member dear to my heart with
whom I can no longer have a normal conversation–I am always skirting
around any topic of substance for fear of provoking a religious tirade.
Although not an USAFA alum, I worked closely with enough of them to know
that C Springs can take its toll. A few years back I worked with a
Jewish female USAFA grad and tried to get her read on the situation and
she would not even speak of it.

It’s not just the extremist views of these evangelical fundamentalists
that are the issue, for we are all entitled to our beliefs, even
extremist ones. It’s the fact that, even if they accept others having
different religious opinions, they want their particular set of beliefs
to be acknowledged as somehow paramount or even official. Most of them
are not bad people, they are just so deluded that they take it for
granted that the military and their own narrow-minded outlook are
somehow inextricably intertwined. Like they say, a fish is not aware of
the water in which it swims. They just accept that it is there. Like
this painting entitled “Defending The Faith”, this represents their
worldview, defending the USA and out Constitution is the same thing as
defending evangelical, Protestant Christianity. Which is why we need the
MRFF!! Not only to combat such sentiment but to provide awareness of
the problem. Thanks for sharing, Mikey! Keep on fighting.
