Mr Weinstein:

Please find attached a few photos from Wright-Patt AFB, OH, of what appears to be overt, sectarian selection & endorsement by the Federal government of one religion over another. The first two are of Chapel #2 at the Kittyhawk Annex taken just this past week. The last photo is from the Dec 2010 holiday season in front of Chapel #1.

For background, I’m a retired USAF officer, a current DoD civilian employee, a former Roman Catholic, a patriot and a strong believer in the Constitution that I spent the better part of my life preserving. I send you these images because I’m sick and tired of overt Christians callously casting aside the First Amendment, and want their behavior checked. This is Federal property, not their home. Religion is a personal matter and the government can not endorse one sect over another. I’m no Spring chicken, and I know how things work, and through normal channels nothing will be done and it’ll be swept under the rug—if it’s even brought up at all. I empathize with those junior troops that feel they have no voice. Additionally, I have concern over organizational reprisal if I were to bring it up through normal channels and lodge a complaint, which is why I ask for your assistance.

Unfortunately during my career, I’ve seen a growing trend of religiosity and overt proselytization brewing in the military. However, there’s a growing groundswell of individuals, those like me, at this base that do not care to have this in-your-face endorsement of Christianity shoved on them. I find it appalling, galling, and ludicrous that I, or anyone else of any other faith (or no faith), should be subjected to seeing this poster displayed prominently for all to see at Kittyhawk. This poster incidentally faces the commissary, BX, and dormitories. This poster has a monopoly on wall space at the chapel. There are no competing posters that say, “Accelerate your Hindu Journey” or “Accelerate your Muslim Journey” or any other message for that matter. Only Christianity is represented. This can not stand. I can only surmise that whoever or whatever this service is, it’s probably being provided through a contract vehicle. If so, I can only hope that public funds didn’t go to pay for it.

I did not serve all these years to see the needs of the minority slowly trampled by the majority. The Wall of Separation appears to be crumbling at this base. I just hope Thomas Jefferson isn’t turning in his grave.

Please help get this practice squelched once and for all.
