Mikey:
I have no power to peer into the mind of former Chaplin Klingenschmitt, so what I am about to say is simply my gut reaction to his call into the Mike Regan talk show and Sean Hannity show on the same day about 9 years ago. When he told of his disagreement with his boss over the issue of praying at official events/services as he wanted to, he of course got my attention immediately. I had just learned about Curtis’ abominable treatment at the USAF Academy and I wanted to pass on the key information to you and to hear what this Chaplin’s experience had been.

In the first call (to the Hannity show- I think), I kept an open mind and thought he might be in the right. Then he gave himself away when he whined about his dubious future and not knowing how he would take care of his wife and their pet Labrador. I felt like screaming at the radio, “You’re worried about a dog? Protecting the Constitution and our republic is what you should worry about!” I calmed down and later in the afternoon I heard the 2nd call he made to the other talk show. Then I really became angry. He was reading from a script, saying the same words he had said in the first call. I had to grit my teeth and pray hard to not scream when he invoked his whimpering voice to say once again that he didn’t know what was going to happen to his dog.

The Chaplin’s superior officer was alerted to the call and called in the talk show and set the record straight. His superior stated that he as a Baptist minister had always prayed exactly as he chose to in any setting and that Klingenschmitt had not been ordered to omit the phrase “in Jesus name” at the end of any prayer. The issue was his disobeying a direct order to not participate in a public protest while wearing his Navy uniform and other incidences of insubordination.

My gut had been right. He tried to portray himself as a dog-loving preacher who just want to serve the kingdom and to pray as he had been taught to do, but his actions clearly showed him to be a fraud, a modern day “Pharisee” ironically whom he most certainly had criticized in many sermons. I don’t think he was worried about his career at all. I think he wanted to be forced out of the Navy and to launch his new career. The tone of his earlier prayers about you expressed pure hatred. I am not swayed by his appeal for your conversion. I do not trust his motives. I do not believe his words. I don’t even think he loved that dog.

Mikey, I hope people becoming aware of this blatant violation of our Constitution will trust their gut and know that you and MRFF are not the enemy of Christianity, Agnosticism, Buddhism or any other ism. You are rather the champion of truth and a defender of our Constitution. I know it stings to know that in some places of worship you have been referred to as Satan’s field marshal, but remember in the prayers of thousands of Catholic and Protestant military members oppressed by their errant superiors for not being “Christian enough”, the MRFF clients are thanking God for you and your work.

The framers of our Constitution must have known that chaos was inevitable if a government, even one led by a great man like George Washington, involved itself in the choosing of a state religion for the citizenry. As I have told you before, we Christians can’t even agree on how the serve communion. Just how would the government legislate that issue?

No matter what lies are written about MRFF and about you personally, history will show that you are on the right side of this battle.

Keep holding your arms up!
