Dear MRFF,

Oh, I’m so glad you got that USMC Squadron to change its name from Crusaders to Werewolves. Yes, that was so offensive. Thank you for scoring a victory to shove religion into the dark corner of some basement.

You people are ridiculous. Go tackle some problem that’s actually important.

Dear (name withheld),

Mikey has read your email and asked me to respond on behalf of MRFF.

Please be assured that your feelings and emotions (glad, happy, sad, whatever) is completely irrelevant in regards to this matter. It has never been, and will never be, MRFF’s practice to shove any religion anywhere. However, MRFF will continue its efforts in support of its clients (i.e., Active & Retired U.S. Military Members) by forcefully and unapologetically standing up on their behalf against religious tests, observances, preferences, etc. from gaining government sanctioned legitimacy in any form or fashion.

Please also be assured that MRFF fully supports you and your ‘dark corner’ or other preferred location for practicing your religious choices, as long as your choices are neither sanctioned nor supported by government action. This after all is the essence of the 1st Amendment to the U.S. Constitution; free religious practice without ANY government entanglements whatsoever. To contend otherwise is utterly ridiculous.

As to your recommendation to “tackle some problem that’s actually important”, I would suggest you should have shared this recommendation with Lt. Col. Wade Wiegel, Commanding Officer, Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 122, MCAS Beaufort who probably had some rather more significant issues to address as squadron commander than to backslide on an issue that had been appropriately addressed in 2008 by then squadron commander Lt. Col. William Lieblein.

Lt. Col. Lieblein’s actions were in conformity with official U.S. policy that we are not at war with Islam; Lt. Col. Wiegel’s actions were not. Like many active duty and veteran members of the U.S. Marine Corps, my father is fond of asking people who do not follow rules, regulations, policies, etc., what makes them a ‘special snowflake’. Not being a USMC member, I would never be so presumptuous as to pose that question to Lt. Col Wiegel. My father on the other hand would not hesitate.

Sincerely,

Andy Kasehagen
