I realize with all the mail you are getting, mine will probably get placed on the bottom of the pile especially since I used your word “Detractor”.
>> I’m a Christian and in the Air Force and I believe in your rights as given under the Constitution to state your opinions, freedom of speech.
>> It almost goes without saying however, that I disagree with everything you stand for if it violates my freedom of speech and religion.
>> I don’t wish harm or for you to even be silenced. The world needs folks like you to spark discussions pertaining to religion (although I hate that word…I prefer relationship…I think you can guess with Who) because in the end, it makes it easier for individuals to make a rationale choice between your views and my views.
>> No doubt, your views will attract the majority. My Bible says that wide is the gate that leads to destruction, narrow is the way that leads to life, view will find it. That means the majority will be fooled into believing the diatribe you spill.
>> But a healthy discussion brings out really good points…those good points forces me to dig deeper in my Bible for answers which inevitably will solidify my faith.
>> I don’t hate you or your website…I do have to be honest and say I hate your stance because it differs with what is true.
>> You can twist the words of the Constitution (the whole church and state separation farce) but in the end, people will find out the truth.
>> You spout religious freedom to not hear “Have A Blessed Day” while you spout cursings (words/gestures) in front of me which is to offend me.  I don’t take you to court, I just pray for you.
>> You spout words that you are standing with others for their rights while you stomp on my rights to say what I feel (which doesn’t really come close to offensive if you were to ask honest people…atheists or Christian or Muslim).
>> Hypocrisy at the highest level is happening from you and your website when you slam others for their beliefs trying to help those that don’t believe in anything.
>> Offended?…how can you or anyone be offended at a God you don’t even believe in?
>>
>> Things that are make believe in this world, I just shrug off because it doesn’t matter in the end.
>> The same goes for your stance against Christians. I’ll choose to pray instead of getting offended.
>>
>> The curse words you flail out at us Christians…offends only when they use God’s name but I choose to say let Someone else handle them. Again, just pray and show kindness and love.
>>
>> Again, I truly admire your passion for this misguided stance but can’t agree. I will be praying for you and your wife, that one day you will see the truth as it really is.
>> I don’t hate, I choose to love (through Christ who also loves you because I can’t love you and your family under my own power, God knows).
>>
>> Thank you for your time and have a good day…James 1:17  or great day if you prefer, Psalms 95:3.
>>

Dear (name withheld),

Thank you for taking the time to message us about your perspective on current events.  Of course, we do disagree on many points of opinion it’s points of fact that we most often take time to address in the messages we receive.

The first point of fact is that the separation of church and state has never been a minor facet of American law.  While it didn’t appear verbatim in the constitution, the first amendment did quite well to establish the concept by disallowing government intrusion or support of religion.  You can find that the concept of separation of church and state was thoroughly supported by the overwhelming majority of the founders of our country in their personal and official correspondence.  If you’d like to see how the supreme court of this country, you would do well to read the opinion issued in, well dozens of instances : http://infidels.org/library/modern/ed_buckner/quotations.html#IV.

I’ve found that most often people who value faith as an intrinsically good quality will apply that odd trait, the willful suspension of reason, to more than just religious matters.  I don’t expect that upon reading the unrevised history of our country would sway your stance, but it’s my duty to share with you the good news that while a Christian nation exists within America, the United States is not a Christian government.

Now, on to the current conflict regarding daily blessings being delivered by gate guards.  Because our government cannot endorse any religious perspective or lack thereof, any individuals who ate executing their proscribed government duties are not to use their position to promote any religious position.  Imagine for a moment that a squad of soldiers took it upon themselves to begin getting entrants to a post with “god is dead!”  Now let’s say that the practice became the standard for that unit and those who chose to dissent were castigated by their superiors.  Further, as these hypothetical soldiers are using this greeting, they are developing a clear impression to every person they greet that not just individually, but as a cohesive unit representing the uniforms they wear, the government they serve, have established an official perspective on religion.  Perhaps that’s a scenario that you would find passable, but here at MRFF we passionately disagree.

I do like your philosophy of love for others.  It’s a benchmark of my moral code as well.

Take care,
