Pat Robertson should never use the word Cowardice! While attempting to run for president it was finally exposed that he was a definite coward in contacting his Senator  father to have him transferred from his Marine lieutenancy assignment within the Pusan Perimeter in South Korea from the advancing North Korean Army. Some innocent Marine lieutenant had to replace him while he was safely lifted to the 2nd Marine Division in Japan.
I finished first in my class as an enlisted Marine and volunteered for a Korean assignment to the First Marine Division. I was only 17 years and had to prove to headquarters that I would turn 18 years just prior to the troop ship entering Korean waters with the help of my lieutenant basketball coach while stationed at Courthouse Bay, Camp Lejeune, NC. Finishing first I was offered first choice regarding duty assignment.
Later after finishing college I re-joined the Marine Corps and became a F4 Phantom pilot. A congressman, Ben Reifel, R-SD wanted me to go to law school and opened that door for me. I was granted acceptance into the Class of 1966, University of South Dakota but after considering the need for Marine F4 pilots who bore the brunt of valuable life saving Close Air Support duty against advancing enemy troops -the Phantom could provide for our ground troops both Marine and Army, my conscience told me to serve the critical needs of my country first and put off law school acceptance until Class of 1967 instead. The Congressman did not like my refusal and I had to obtain assurance from the Dean of the Law School, Dean Scarlett who can be reached for verification through Wake Forest Law School now. I went on to combat duty and flew 110 combat missions for Marine Fighter Attack Squadron (VMFA-115) out of Chu Lai. Practically all of my missions were of the more dangerous Close Air – ‘Marine Tree Top Level’ bombing, mostly dropping one at a time making repeated passes over the enemy, one bomb or nape each pass. You are exposed to enemy fire each attacking pass. The Phantom carried 12 – 500 pounders. 750 Phantoms were shot down or destroyed in Vietnam and F-4 pilots were the majority in Hanoi Hilton. I never thought about calling the Congressman to get me out of my assigned duty despite its danger. One mission, actually five missions back to back, I was strategically involved in a rescue mission of two downed H-46 helicopters in the Highlands and loaded with Marines. An NVA battalion was attempting to capture them. Three day missions with 500 pounders or Nape we flew and then two night missions were needed by a section of we two F4s. We lost one helicopter and its crew and load but managed to lay down enough ordinance to get the other H-46 out that night. The lost chopper load was murdered in the Highlands- no prisoners. An AD Spad was downed along with an A-4 Skyhawk and two Helo Gunships. A small airstrip close to the rescued chopper allowed them to survive also. Had I not gone on those missions, maybe my replacement would never had the miraculous stamina that I managed. Pat Robertson needs a conscience but I doubt if he will ever find it. I graduated from USD law School in 1970.
When I hear of cowards and cowardice and especially those cowards and non-patriotic charlatans such as Pat Robertson who also stand for racism and extreme narrow mindedness I have to expose such ilk. One of his books I read he was against mixed marriages and somehow thinks Creator speaks through him. The Director of the Military Religious Freedom Foundation is far removed from Robertson’s gutless accusations. The Director, Mikey Weinstein, is simply, bravely  championing the U. S.  Constitution. Robertson is attempting to subvert it.
