Mikey,

I am currently stationed at Marine Corps Base Hawaii and read the recent article about removing the “God bless the military” sign located near the flight line. I feel the sign is a violation of the First Amendment to the United States Constitution (Establishment Clause). Many senior enlisted leaders and field grade officers feel the same way I do, but believe the Base Commander and his chain of command do not give all the community an equal voice; he exclusively caters to the Christian community. During the midst of the controversy, Marine Forces Pacific voted on their Facebook page to keep the sign. This action only ensured the majority’s opinion was acted on, and did not give a vote to the secular community or other religions. The Base Commander is in violation of his oath of office as a Marine Officer and should be held accountable for his actions. Please do not give up; help us remove the sign.

Sincerely,

(active Duty U.S. Marine’s name, rank, MOS, unit all withheld)
