A former military lawyer who served in the Reagan White House and worked for Ross Perot is suing a Dallas-based religious organization in a case that could test the limits of free speech and prayer.
Mikey Weinstein, founder of the Military Religious Freedom Foundation, said he wants Gordon Klingenschmitt, a former U.S. Navy chaplain, to "stop asking Jesus to plunder my fields ... seize my assets, kill me and my family then wipe away our descendants for 10 generations."

The far-right Republicans have been cultivating (please note the root word "cult", heh, heh...) relationships with lunatic evangelicals for decades now. In this way, the farther right the congreation and preacher, the more they can fire up their base by falsely telling them that they are not "good Christians" unless they vote for people like Bush and Michele Bachmann.
Plus, it feeds into their narcissistic delusions of granduer, since Repubs who have all but annhilated the constitution and rule of law can portray themselves as the only "true" Americans and patriots, just as the far-right evangelicals who have been spewing racist and anti-American drivel for generations can claim to be the "true" Christians. A marriage made in hell if there ever was one.

"Weinstein, 54, said his family has received death threats, had a swastika emblazoned on their home in New Mexico, animal carcasses left on their doorstep and feces thrown at the house."
If it were just "prayer" there would be no problem, but these nuts are inciting other "religious" nuts to abuse this guy and his family.

Christ would not approve of this type of behavior towards another.
Christ was about love and forgiveness and tolerance.
Something is very wrong with these preachers praying for harm to others.
Good luck with the lawsuit.

Prayer is a request to One whom is assumed to have absolute power. To request to God for the destruction of someone's life is like taking a hit out on them with the most powerful force in the universe.
If Gordon Klingenschmidtt actually believes that God will act upon his prayer, and if he convinces a jury that his desire is for the answer to the prayer, then yes, his prayer is sincerely a threat to the life of Mikey Weinstein. If Gordon Klingenschmidtt has control over other's actions, as a leader, and they are convinced that God commands through him, then for them to act on the inclination of his prayers is within the realm of their psychological potential. He is inciting violence, and controls the actions of those who can and would execute the deed believing they were acting in accordance with an authoritative agenda.
You can't claim God made you do it, anymore than you can claim the Devil made you do it, but during an act of religious passion, as in a murder of passion, a captivated mind doesn't look for reason.

Special Report:
The Crusades, Still Killing for Christ
Sunday, September 27, 2009
By Michael Leon
Mikey Weinstein of the Military Religious Freedom Foundation (MRFF) has the crazy idea that our military should not discriminate against our troops on the basis of religion.
Two things happened the last several years that led to the creation of his organization now on the front lines fighting for the free exercise of religion in the military:
- George W. Bush decided unilaterally that the United States was on a "crusade" for Christianity, replete with all of the historical atrocities associated with this stated act of imbecility. The idea that the United States engages in religious wars is anathema to Weinstein, and most readers here. Afterall, we're a pluralistic country built on the idea of individual liberty and not state-mandated religious dogma that we wish to impose on other countries or troops and citizens.
- Secondly, Weinstein, an Air Force Academy graduate and Reagan administration White House counsel, found out the Academy was messing with his sons who were Jewish cadets at the Air Force Academy, and that such harassment is pervasive.
Weinstein is the wrong guy to mess with.

The constitutional violations occurring in our military are so numerous and widespread that we can't possibly find all of them ourselves. MRFF counts on its supporters and volunteers -- the indispensable "eyes and ears" who alert us to everything from the most egregious of constitutional violations to articles we might be interested in.
So, keep the emails coming, and never think that anything is too insignificant or assume that we might already know about it. You never know -- you might have stumbled into the next bombshell of a story and not even realize it.

Message From
Mikey Weinstein
MRFF President

Greetings MRFF supporters!
Once again MRFF merits major media news coverage!
As you can see our lead item in this newsletter is from the Dallas Morning News: "Lawyer Sues to End Dallas Group's 'Threat' Prayers". This landmark case tests the boundaries of free speech and prayer. It is just another atrocious example of religious speech being used to incite violence. If we prevail in this lawsuit, every cent of any monetary damages awarded, minus attorneys' fees, will be immediately signed over to the Military Religious Freedom Foundation, to continue our most vital fight.
We will be unable to continue making waves in the media without an ongoing outpouring of generous financial support from you, our valued supporters.
I'd personally like to thank all of those who attended our recent Bowling for the Troops event in Los Angeles, as well as our celebrity guest Ed Asner.
For our upcoming Albuquerque bowling event, the special celebrity guest bowlers are Ambassador Joseph C. Wilson (retired), and his wife, Valerie Plame Wilson. I will be in attendance with my wife, Bonnie Weinstein. Please click here for more information, to participate, or to donate.
With your continued support we will remain ever vigilant in our task. As our costs rise to maintain our presence in the courts and in the media, our struggle to survive grows ever more difficult. Please Help Build The Wall separating church and state in our United States military.
Your Eternal Ally,
Mikey
