Pentagon explains decision
by Shaw Air Force base to
remove Nativity Scene

"I’m troubled by the amount of power
Mikey Weinstein wields at the Pentagon."

Selected Article Excerpts:

  • A nativity scene at Shaw Air Force Base in South Carolina was abruptly removed last week.

    Now we know why.

The recommendation to remove a Nativity from a Christmas display at the base came from Pentagon lawyers who feared the plastic Baby Jesus could give the appearance that the military is endorsing religion.

A spokesperson for the South Carolina base told me that Pentagon lawyers were acting on a complaint filed by the Military Religious Freedom Foundation, a radical anti-Christian organization whose leaders appear to hold great sway over President Obama’s Pentagon.

Lt. Keavy Rake said the Pentagon warned that items that are almost exclusively religious in nature, like a Nativity scene, "could appear to endorse religion" if they are displayed alone and away from chapel grounds.

Rake said the Pentagon recommended the Baby Jesus either be displayed on chapel grounds or as "part of a larger secular or multicultural display on base."
  • Rake acknowledged that if there had there (sic) been no complaint from the MRFF the Nativity would probably still be at the Memorial Lake.
  • "This is much more than a war on Christmas, this is a war on the freedom of religious expression," he said. Ron Crews, executive director of the Chaplain Alliance for Religious Liberty, said military members have every right to express their faith, even through a nativity scene.

"This is yet another example of the Air Force yielding to a phone call from the Military Religious Freedom Foundation," Crews said.
  • But I’m still troubled by the amount of power Mikey Weinstein wields at the Pentagon. It took two hours and 15 minutes for the Pentagon to respond to his query. It took them six days to respond to the media.

The Pentagon may privately assure religious liberty groups that Weinstein is nothing more than a gadfly. But the facts prove otherwise. When Mikey Weinstein speaks, the Pentagon obeys.

Thank You For Being Shaw's
Best Wingman, MRFF!

We receive an enormous amount of emails at the Military Religious Freedom Foundation, both from our supporters and detractors. "MRFF's Inbox" allows us to share this correspondence with you:

Thank You To The MRFF From Shaw AFB

I am a USAF fighter pilot stationed here at Shaw AFB, SC. I am also one of the MRFF clients who asked for help in the matter of the nativity scene erected at Memorial Lake here on base in violation of DoD and USAF regs.

My spouse and I and a number of others (we’re all practicing Christians of some type or another) who are clients of the MRFF in my Fighter Sq. just wanted to say thank you for stepping up here. The level of ignorance about religious matters and the regs and even the Constitution is just so hard to believe here in the 20th Fighter Wing. Not much better in other places I’ve been stationed. If you try to say something you will be ostracized and it will stick and follow you all over the Air Force. We are seeing you all really take the heat for stepping up for us. It is appreciated so much. Sorry they are jacking you up for doing the right thing. We are all telling our kids and families what you have done for us. Hard for the young ones to understand but some do.

We’ve just been told that the "new and improved" Nativity display will be going up on the base chapel grounds at noon today. About an hour from now. That’s where it should always have been. We all have you heroes at the MRFF to thank for that happening.

Please do not use my contact information but the rest of this is ok to go out.

Thank you for being Shaw’s best Wingman, MRFF!

V/R

A Nativity to Pray For

Hey jewboy Mickey Whinerstein. The Air Force Base in S. Carolina should make a nativity scene out of your dismembered fucking body parts. You stinking kike commie athiest liberal dick sucking Obummer loving Jesus hating faggot lawyer. Who worships satan queers and abortions and muslum sand niggers like Obummer more than your own country. TRAITOR JEW!

Dear (Name withheld),

Whew! You eat with that mouth? One worries about the mind that can concoct a rap like that. There’s clearly injury there, but what caused it is the question. A quick scan of the word choices betrays an obvious fascination with violence and homosexuality, so it could be a serious case of repression. That’s not good. Denying a part of oneself that’s fighting to be recognized can cause real psychic pain and ultimately truly aberrant behavior. You might want to think about looking into serious therapy before something happens. A psychotic break can really mess a person up and therapy can be helpful, even with someone who’s this far gone. But I’d hurry if I were you.

Fortunately, I’m not.

Best,

Mike Farrell
