Former Rep. Allen West (R-FL) and Far-Right Shock Jock
Michael Savage Attack
MRFF's Mikey Weinstein

In response to comments from right-wing talk show host Michael Savage and former Tea Party Congressman Allen West attacking Mikey Weinstein, founder of the Military Religious Freedom Foundation, Mr. Weinstein released the following statement:

"This weak threat is no more than you'd expect from a coward like Michael Savage and a theocrat like Allen West, whose greatest gift to the military was getting forced out of it." He continued, "West and Savage want to shred the First Amendment for the very men and women who defend it every day in the Armed Forces. They demeaned victims of religious persecution and sexual assault, attacked those who are trying to address the problems facing our service members, and made excuses for officers like West who have failed to do their duty."

After West accused Weinstein of committing an "assault" against the military, Savage exploded, declaring that Mikey "is single handedly pulling the military into the gutter." With West's support, Savage went on, "I don't know how the man is not stopped. He has done more damage to the military than let us say our worst enemy, in my estimation." He continued, "He's a single man who is borderline psychotic in my estimation. He's a diehard, fanatic atheist, and he's on the warpath against the U.S. military. And no one has been able to stop this psycho." (A full transcript of the exchange is below.)

Mikey Weinstein is a 1977 Honor Graduate of the United States Air Force Academy who spent 10 years in the Air Force as a military attorney. A registered Republican, he served over three years in the West Wing of the Reagan Administration as legal counsel. Mikey has held numerous positions in corporate America as a senior executive and attorney.

With over 33,200 active duty, veteran and Defense employee clients, the Military Religious Freedom Foundation is dedicated to ensuring that all members of the United States Armed Forces, regardless of their personal beliefs, receive the full Constitutional guarantee of religious freedom to which they, and all Americans, are entitled under the First Amendment.

From the June 4 broadcast of "The Savage Nation":

WEST: There is an assault against the United States military.
SAVAGE: Yes.
WEST: We've seen it with the lifting of the Don't Ask, Don't Tell. You know, the thing about the military, is that we conform personal behavior to the military. When the military announced being told they have to conform to personal behavior, that takes you down a very bad path. When you understand a guy like [Military Religious Freedom Foundation founder and president] Mikey Weinstein, who is meeting with officials in the Department of Defense --
SAVAGE: Oh don't, don't mention his name. This man is single handedly pulling the military into the gutter.
WEST: Yeah. Yes.
SAVAGE: I don't know how this man is -- I don't know how the man is not stopped. He has done more damage to the military than let us say our worst enemy, in my estimation.
WEST: Nah, you're absolutely --
SAVAGE: He's a single man who is borderline psychotic in my estimation. He's a diehard, fanatic atheist, and he's on the warpath against the U.S. military. And no one has been able to stop this psycho.
