Mikey,

As a Christian and a Vietnam veteran I know that mankind, all of us, are plagued by a sin nature that operates out of a spirit of fear, militant pride, and the love of money and ourselves, 1 John 2:16. These are just a few of the elements of our sin nature which explain what we see on the television screen and experience in our personal lives every day.

Civil leaders are subject to this sin nature and according to some commentators have withheld the proper notification to veterans out of fear that it would cost too much money to take care of and send benefits to afflicted veterans. After the latest bailouts of the banking industry that have reduced the "power of money" into the hands of fewer people worldwide, setting the stage for the coming Antichrist, the money needed for ailing Vietnam veterans is in comparison a drop in the bucket, as the saying goes!

But there is hope. Jesus Christ has shed his pure sinless blood to pay for those sins and offered us forgiveness and a new heart surrounded by the indwelling Holy Spirit that can overcome these things until he returns in great power and glory to finally end the awful wars that have stricken the human race. The fallen angels who inspire the sin nature in men will be imprisoned in Hell along with all men who reject the only way into eternal life, the Lord Jesus Christ. When he comes we shall be given new resurrected bodies that will never tire or get sick again, and most of all, we shall live in the bodily presence of the Son of God on this Earth for 1000 years. God bless you all, my veteran friends.

Response from a MRFF supporter

Dear Sir,

I have asked Mr. Weinstein to let me respond to your letter. I am also a Vietnam veteran, and experienced close personal ground combat at Khe Sanh and elsewhere during 1967-8.

First, thanks very much for serving our country and for sharing your views with MRFF. MRFF respects and honors veterans of any faith or belief system. In fact, that is our reason for existence - to keep the armed services from allowing any one belief system or religion to dominate the others, as expressly and wisely written into our great Constitution by our founders.

I can certainly appreciate, and respect your views on the current economic crisis and wars in which we are involved, and I believe you are at least partially correct in your idea that human flaws like fear, pride, and love of self and money drives much of the problems we see transpiring.

However, speaking as an agnostic (and here I speak only for myself - Mr. Weinstein is Jewish, and other members of his family and MRFF are Christians or members of other faiths), I regret that I cannot share your faith that there will be a spiritual solution for the world's ills coming any time in the near future. I feel that we must rely on transforming these situations by dint of hard work and example. As the late Mahatma Ghandi said; "We must become the change we want to see." I think that even a Christian can agree that this is a good way to formulate real change in this imperfect world.

I think you might agree that a true Christian should lead by example, not by forcing his or her ideas on others. This is MRFF's belief also - they don't want to see your beliefs trampled on by anyone else (nor anyone else's beliefs trampled by Christians) no matter how well-intending.

I gather from the tone of your letter that you are a true Christian - and while you obviously want to share your faith, I don't believe that you would deliberately offend others or force your beliefs on them. Again, that is the aim of MRFF. We would defend your beliefs if you were still on active duty, and someone of another faith attempted to force you to worship or believe as they wanted you to.

I hope this clarifies MRFF's mission and goals for you. Again, many thanks for writing, and for your service.

Very sincerely,

[name withheld]
