Mr. Weinstein, I was watching fox news last night & could not believe my ears when u said the Air Force should remove “so help me God” from the oath! This country was founded on God & if some people who have other religious beliefs don’t want to say it then they should not have to, but I found you very offensive & do NOT agree with you at all.

Mikey has read your email and asked me to respond to you.

First of all, soldiers of other faiths and atheists MUST say “so help me God” or they don’t get their commission.

Second, the inclusion of “so help me God” is against the law.

The very First Amendment to the Constitution reads:

“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion …”

Note that the clause is absolute. It allows no law. It is also noteworthy that the clause forbids more than the establishment of religion by the government. It forbids even laws respecting an establishment of religion.

“. . . no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States.” (Article VI, Section III)

When Congress passed an act in 1962 to include “so help me God” in the oath, it violated the very Constitution that they swore to uphold and it must be removed.

We find it offensive that the military is breaking the law and we fight to make them uphold it.
