Hey (name withheld),
I’m on the board of advisors of the MRFF and one of my tasks is to help make sure everyone who contacts us
gets a response. I saw your message from this morning and confess I’m not sure exactly how to respond to
you because I’m unclear about just what you’re saying and to whom you’re saying it.
You begin with a negative reference to a “soapbox” and say you initially “dismissed” Mikey (I have to assume you’re
addressing Mikey, because it came to us, but that’s not at all clear), and suggests you’re not a fan. But you go on to say
you’ve made note of him (or us, or someone) over time and refer to “disrupting retirement ceremonies and the like”,
which makes me think you’re confused and meant to send this to someone else entirely. You see, we don’t disrupt
retirement ceremonies.
Then you seem to focus on a kind of attention-seeking figure who “became somebody”. That confirms for me that you
meant this for someone else. We’ve always been somebody.
Next you say you think it’s “kind of amazing” that whoever you’re addressing is still here in 2020. That brings Donald
Tump to mind. Did you mean to send this to him?
You went to a website. Was it ours? Trumps? You saw “letters” and “testimonials” and “hate mail” and thought something
about the “fashion in which” things were displayed was “quite telling” and “says a lot.” I’ve never been to Trump’s website
but I assume it’s both “telling” and “says a lot”. So again, no clue.
Then you go on a riff about a “young man” who has “come far” being “awarded” for efforts, “deserv(ing) recognition”, which,
you suggest is “very special for” the addressee, whoever it is, but who “deserve(s)” it “for all (his, her or its) hard work and
devotion to (his, her or its) calling.”
See, this throws me. I see that you’re retired, but you’d have to be a true geezer to think of Trump as a young man. I see
you’re attempting to be ironic with all the tongue-in-cheek praise. The venom does ooze through. And I’ve never been to
Trump’s website but assume you’re otherwise right on with the empty flattery.
And then we get to the money part. You’ll give some thought to something special for the addressee: “Something suited for
(he, she or it) specifically.” This will take, you say, “more intelligence & contemplation on the matter.” And the clear
attempt here is to leave a suggestion without having the courage to simply say so, that something wicked this way comes.
I have to say, (name withheld), more intelligence is certainly needed here and it’s good you recognize that. Given the oozing venom,
I’d suggest help from agencies that offer treatment. If you meant to send this to Donald Trump, while I understand the impulse,
the law requires that I forward it to the Secret Service.
If you meant it for Mikey or someone else here whose efforts have somehow discomfited you, we’ll be sure the proper
authorities are alerted. And if it was for us and you have the ability to articulate your concerns a bit more candidly we’ll
be happy to respond appropriately.
Mike Farrell
(MRFF Board of Advisors)
“Name Withheld” obviously has no rational, fact-based objections to what Mikey and the MRFF are doing. So he or she does what cowardly, dumb, and vicious folks always do – resorting to threats of violence. If only these people would spend their time learning the law and military policy, rather than composing long letters threatening violence.
