Dear Mikey,

After reading Mr. Weiss’ excellent article in the Dayton Jewish Observer I was struck by Fundamentalist Christian Theocratic Congressman Mike Turner’s absurd comments. Clearly he’s either lying about his support for the religious rights of service members and veterans or he believes only fundamentalist Christians posses freedom of religion in our country. Either way his moral and intellectual vacuity were on full display both in his proposed and failed amendment and in his comments quoted in the article. 

The fact is that a ridiculously high number of service members and veterans have suffered from marginalization, religious coercion, intimidation and even being passed over for promotion, disciplined and sent to the front lines in combat zones due to their faith or no faith at all. As a veteran there was a time when I was in fact denied medical care at a V.A. facility because of my Jewish faith. Thankfully, due to the direct intervention by Mikey Weinstein and the Military Religious Freedom Foundation I and numerous other Jews, as well as veterans representing all faiths and no faith at all now receive excellent care at that same V.A. facility. If Representative Mike Turner and his Fundamentalist Christian Theocratic co-conspirators had their way any fundamentalist religious supervisor, doctor, practitioner, senior or commanding officer could Bigfoot the religious liberties of any veteran or service member and that is fundamentally and Constitutionally Un-American.
