LAST CHANCE TO MAKE FULLY
TAX-DEDUCTIBLE DONATIONS
FOR TAX YEAR 2009

DONATE NOW CLICK HERE
MRFF is a 501(c)3 nonprofit entity. All donations fully tax deductible.

MRFF Supporters,

I will keep this note brief out of respect for your precious time during this busy holiday season. As I sat down to reflect on this year and how to convey our massive impact to you, I first thought of the thousands of honorable Soldiers, Sailors, Marines and Airmen who have come to us for help when no one else would stand up for them. I then thought of the broad media exposure our civil rights advocacy has received, from a cover story in Harpers Magazine to countless pieces covering our work, spanning the range of comprehensive media outlets. I thought of the hard fought recognition we've received, culminating in our official nomination for the 2010 Nobel Peace Prize. I settled, however, on just a few words from a breath-taking note we recently received from a new MRFF military client:

"You are the voice I wasn't allowed to use."

MRFF continues to weather the worst economic storm of most of our lifetimes, but we are in desperate need of your continued support. Our efforts have not gone unnoticed. Please believe me when I tell you that there is respect, awareness, and gratitude for our cause at the highest levels of the American military. Indeed, MRFF has reached a critical mass that has given us a platform to affect real and lasting change. Please, please be as generous as possible with your fully tax deductible MRFF donation, and help us continue in this mission of support to our troops in accord with our beautiful United States Constitution. We stand completely alone in this lonely, dangerous and expensive fight. I beseech you from the bottom of my heart to stand with us.

Your Eternal Ally,
Mikey Weinstein

SOME OF THE BRIGHTEST
STARS IN THE GALAXY OF
MRFF’S 2009 ACHIEVEMENTS

  • On the legal front, in addition to MRFF's ongoing Federal litigation against DoD for a "pattern and practice" of unconstitutional religious persecution, Mikey initiated another aggressive lawsuit in Dallas, Texas against a far right, extremist, fundamentalist Christian organization (and its founder, leader and most visible spokesman) which directly controls at least 270 U.S. military chaplains and chaplain candidates. The suit asserts terroristic threats, conspiracy and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

  • From Mikey's meeting and ongoing communication with Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. Norton Schwartz, to the ever increasing number of senior commanders military-wide who are not only responding to MRFF's requests and demands, but soliciting MRFF's advice on how to handle situations at their installations, MRFF has clearly become a voice that can't be ignored.

  • MRFF was honored to be among the very select few to be asked to contribute a paper on religion in the military for the soon to be released book Department of Defense Social Policy Perspectives 2010. This vitally important book, 5,000 copies of which have already been pre-ordered, is being published by Air University Press, the publishing arm of Air University at Maxwell Air Force Base, and addresses all of the most important and contentious social issues in the U.S. military. See www.dodpolicy.org for more information.

  • Joining MRFF's Board in 2009 is former Air Force officer and highly decorated Vietnam veteran Richard Baker. Joining our Advisory Board are long-time MRFF supporters Sam Fairchild and William B. Wiener, Maj. Gen. David J. Scott, USAF (ret.), Col. George Reed, USA (ret.), former Navy Seal Glen Doherty, Institute on Religion and Public Policy founder and president Joseph Grieboski, and best selling author Frank Schaeffer, bringing MRFF the invaluable perspective of a former leader of the religious right who is now one of its most insightful critics.

  • Throughout the year, MRFF has received unprecedented international and national media coverage, greatly raising awareness of the dire consequences wrought by the reality of the fundamentalist Christian invasion of the
    U.S. military.

  • In October, Mikey Weinstein was informed that the Military Religious Freedom Foundation has the tremendous honor of being nominated for the 2010 Nobel Peace Prize.

This 6 minute, 5 second video confirms all we've been fighting for over the last 5 plus years!!

"Upon McHugh’s nomination last June, the Military Religious Freedom Foundation, a civil rights watchdog group that monitors proselytization and religious discrimination in the US military, lamented that McHugh was too little change from Bush appointees who intermingled the military’s mission with that of evangelizing ministries."

Military Abortion Ban: Female Soldiers Not Protected by Constitution They Defend

Monday, December 21, 2009

By Kathryn Joyce

Unable to get an abortion during a tour of duty in Iraq, a soldier is left with no option but to do it herself—a humiliating but not uncommon dilemma. Women in the military are forced to obtain a leave to get the care they need; but if they’re honest about why, they put their military career in jeopardy. If they’re not, they put their military career in jeopardy.

"You hear these legends of coat-hanger abortions,” a 26-year-old former Marine sergeant told me recently, “but there are no coat hangers in Iraq. I looked.” Amy (who prefers not to use her real name) was stationed in Fallujah as a military journalist two years ago when she discovered she was pregnant. As a female Marine, a distinct minority in the branch, Amy was fearful of going to her chain of command to explain her situation

Prayer Warfare ~ “Prayercast” ~
Spiritual Warfare? Someone Please Tell Me
How This is Christ-like?!

We can’t make this sh*t up...but THEY certainly can – AND DO! Let me explain what I mean.

On the one hand, they claim that prayers don’t carry real power when they are confronted, engaged in levying imprecatory prayer against their perceived enemies. We covered this in our discussions about the commercialization of their “Pray for Obama – Psalm 109:8″ campaign. We also brought this up surrounding the Psalm 109 prayers against Mikey Weinstein and Reverend Barry Lynn by Klingenschimitt and Ammerman.

You be our researcher

The constitutional violations occurring in our military are so numerous and widespread that we can't possibly find all of them ourselves. MRFF counts on its supporters and volunteers -- the indispensable "eyes and ears" who alert us to everything from the most egregious of constitutional violations to articles we might be interested in.

So, keep the emails coming, and never think that anything is too insignificant or assume that we might already know about it. You never know -- you might have stumbled into the next bombshell of a story and not even realize it.
