"U.S. Army Officer,
Combat Vet, West Point
Grad Speaks Out Against
Religious Persecution"

August 19, 2009

I am a United States Army Captain. On a spring day at the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York several years ago, I took a solemn oath to support and defend the United States Constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic as an officer in the United States Army. I took a legally altered oath which omitted the words “So Help Me G-d.” When I submitted my first signed copy, with those words neatly crossed out and initialed, I was informed that it was not valid. When threatened with the prospect of not graduating and being refused a Commission, I stood by my refusal to sign the Oath as it read. I could not in good conscience do so because I was deeply disturbed by fusion of religion and military service. I could not reconcile the suspicion that the Oath itself was establishing religion in a way which contradicted the spirit of the Constitution with the intensity of my commitment to defend same. I believed, and still believe, that my personal metaphysical experience of the universe must be separate from my role as a military professional. In the passing years, I have come to the unsettling conclusion that the sentiment in the Oath which so disturbed me is a practical reality in my United States Army.

Blackwater Founder Implicated in Murder

Tuesday, August 4, 2009

A former Blackwater employee and an ex-US Marine who has worked as a security operative for the company have made a series of explosive allegations in sworn statements filed on August 3 in federal court in Virginia. The two men claim that the company's owner, Erik Prince, may have murdered or facilitated the murder of individuals who were cooperating with federal authorities investigating the company. The former employee also alleges that Prince "views himself as a Christian crusader tasked with eliminating Muslims and the Islamic faith from the globe," and that Prince's companies "encouraged and rewarded the destruction of Iraqi life."

Mikey Weinstein Gets Mail

Saturday, August 15, 2009

By Ed Brayton

And he often forwards me some of the really choice hate mail he receives. For some reason, this one just caught my fancy:

This link in your "newsletter" is all the evidence white Christians need that your loyalty is with world jewry, israel, and the talmud. Notice that even the yid who wrote this says the US Army "retaliated" against the beating of your whiney little jew. The Christian, white US army. And you claim some kind of victory? Now he gets a rabbi and kosher food. What about separation of state and religion? Being a jew isn't about religion, my mistake. It's about changing the world to your liking. Keep it up, big man. Many of us are not just sitting idle.

I'm sure it reads much better in the original German, scrawled in crayon on the side of a Piggly Wiggly bag.

MSNBC's Maddow Show Propels Growing Scandal Over Washington's "Christian Mafia"

Tuesday, August 18, 2009

By Bruce Wilson

Bruce Wilson Photo In a new August 17, 2009 Maddow show segment [link to MSNBC page with viewable show segment], Rachel Maddow and Jeff Sharlet discuss, among many new revelations, the disturbing fact that the "Christian Embassy" scandal, propelled by a complaint to the Department of Defense from the Military Religious Freedom Foundation, was investigated by a Pentagon Inspector General who is in fact a Family member.

The Family, also known as "The Fellowship", is a secretive fundamentalist Washington DC ministry which runs the National Prayer Breakfast and Bible study groups attended by numerous US Senators and Congress members, wields global influence, and celebrates the leadership lessons of Hitler, Lenin, and Mao.

The Book of Psalms is Your Training
Manual For Praying People To Death

Monday, August 17, 2009

By Bruce Wilson

Bruce Wilson Photo

In this fascinating religious infomercial, evangelist Dale Sides explains that the Old Testament's Book of Psalms "tells us how to pray against wicked people and it's not 'now I lay me down to sleep.' Prayers against wicked people are called imprecatory prayers..." Until recently, "imprecatory prayer" was rare, perhaps due to the fact that it resembles what in pop-culture is typically thought of as "black magic." But, Christian death-prayers are coming into vogue, and Sarah Palin's in the loop. In fact, author of Theopalinism: The Face of Failed Extremism Leah Burton has characterized Sarah Palin's Alaska prayer group as Palin's own "death panel" and with some cause - as noted below, Palin's prayer network has waged imprecatory prayer against an alleged "witch."

- Hanna Rosin, former religion reporter
for the Washington Post

This week's article comes from the August 6, 2009 issue of the Barstow Log, the base newspaper of the Marine Corps Logistics Base Barstow, California.

This is not the first time we've featured this publication in our Weekly Watch. As we noted in our April 24, 2009 issue, the Bartow Log was being featured not just for a single article, but because it is hands down the most habitual violator of all the base newspapers we've looked at when it comes to promoting Christianity. MRFF received its first complaint about this paper several years ago, when a four part series of articles proclaimed, using a plethora of historical lies, that America is a Christian nation, and we've been watching it ever since. In spite of several changes in the chaplain writing the paper's "Chaplain's Corner" column over the years, the column's clear evangelical Christian purpose has remained consistent, and Barstow's current Base Chaplain, Lt. Allen Presser, is keeping up the evangelizing.

Well, Chaplain Presser is still at it, writing the following in his August 6 column, "The Visions of Our Hearts Form Our Lives," an article on the necessity of having goals in life.

"Moreover, one of my main goals in life has been to seek the Lord always. This decision has altered and formed my entire life. As I look backward at my life, I see this was the most important decision I ever made. Not that I am anything special; however, the Lord Jesus Christ laid down His life for me that as I believe in Him and give my heart and life to Him, He has and will give me eternal life because He paid the complete price for my sins.

"God is not a respecter of persons, and His gift of eternal life through the Lord Jesus Christ is equally available to everyone without cost and without the possibility of being earned (Revelation 21:6; Romans 10:13; Ephesians 2:8). As we give our lives to the Lord through obedience to His Word, He will shape our hearts which will ultimately form our lives.

Attention MRFF,

Karl Marx was a jew? You dont say. What is a jew anyway? Most came to this country from Russia and eastern Europe. How came they to be in Russia, Poland, Hungary? Not from the land of Canaan, that's for sure. No, most jews aren't Semitic. They are descendents of the Khazars from west-central Asia. Not even one of the 12 tribes. But I digress.

This country was created by "right-wing extremists" who believed in individual rights and small govt. Not leftists like you who believe in group rights (gays, illegals, races, classes), Big Govt, and redistibuting the goys' wealth and income. That means that this nations' European traditions and culture are fundamentally at odds with the collectivist-minded jew and his useful idiots. The natural enmity between jew and Christian is based on Scripture as well. But again I digress.

Almost all Christian fundamentalists support israel and love jews. Ironic, isn't it, how you devote your life to smearing them while they defend your people against the likes of me. I'm your enemy, not them. Believe it.

Christian cabals running the govt and military would be laughable if it weren't so sick. But, yeh, you're an American. So? Karl Marx was born a German.

The six million figure is made up, yeh. I believe that for sure. It's not clear how many Ukrainian Christians were killed by the the atheist Bolshevik jews however. 16 million? Historians aren't sure. But you jews are sure about the 6 million...what a racket!

Don't believe in freedom of speech, do you? Don't lie. Hate speech is ok if it's directed against white gentiles--that's what you think.

I would pack all the jews off to israel, cram them into that shitty little bastard state, build a wall around them at their expense, and then arm the surrounding arab states to the teeth.
Sound good?

Attention MRFF,

Subject: Your Kind Has Caused The Trouble In This Country

I am not a religous person. I spent over 20 years in the USAF defending people like you. In the military all good loving religions are accepted. EXCEPT jerks like you, denying our right for freedom of religion. If you don't like GOD or Christians don't listen to people that do love to beleive in something. You have the right to leave the building where those people are worshiping their religion. If that isn't enough, leave America. Your kind has caused the trouble in this country not religions! If you are muslem that hate other religions shut up and exert the right to leave my country or except the fact in America we have hate laws for orginazations that you represent.

MRFF's Response

Dear Mr. (withheld),

Thank you for your 20 years in the U.S. Air force to protect our American way of life by upholding the oath that you took to defend the Constitution.

I would ask you to reread two parts of that great document: The “Establishment Clause” of the first amendment, as well as the, “No Religious Test” of clause 3 article 6 of that same great document.

I became a supporter of the MRFF, because it is the only organization that defends military personal when they are unconstitutionally coerced by those who try and use their position of power (rank) in violation of the Constitution, to challenge or change other’s most personal values, “To believe as they desire”.

MRFF is not about religion or god, but is a nonprofit charitable organization that attempts to help those military personal who can not defend their personal rights under the Constitution when unlawfully proselytized by rank or the system. It might interest you to know that the MRFF now has over 14,000 clients who are U.S. marines, soldiers, sailors and airmen (more joining by the hundreds each month) and 96% of them are Christians themselves! They're just being told that they're not "Christian enough" by their respective military chains of command. Indeed, the largest organizational backer of the MRFF is the California Council of Churches IMPACT which is comprised of 5,500 Christian congregations, 21 Christian denominations and millions of Protestants and Roman Catholics.

I hope that after rereading those special parts of the Constitution, that you will reconsider some of your previous positions. Please let us know your new thoughts.

Bill Wiener
MRFF Advisory Board

And a final response from (withheld)

You mention California. What a mistake. Nothing, Nothing about California is liked or believed in around here. Kept your beliefs to yourself. We don't want to listen or care what you think. Leave us alone. You need to worry about HB1388 and OBAMA. He will end what we know as a free country.
