Following your speech on 19 Feb 2010, I stuck around in the banquet room and over heard MANY positive things being said from both cadets and faculty members about everything we had just heard. Some of the common themes were that people had never really looked at their commitment to the military, Constitution, and United States of America in the way you described them. As there being only one religion once we put on our uniform and only one religious symbol, the flag of this great nation. This trend continued into my classes both Monday and Tuesday of the following week. Strangely enough, one of the exact issues you addressed in your speech (when the Major got up and asked about whether or not it was ok for her First Shirt to have a Bible verse in his email signature block) came up that following week. I received an email from a Cadet Second Class in my squadron regarding the training of the Doolies and a couple other things. I happened to scroll down to the end of the email, and what did I happen to find? The words “God Bless (Philippians 1:21)” at the end of his signature block. My first thoughts were, “You have got to be freaking kidding me?” How is it possible that an Air Force Regualtion is just blatantly ignored or unknown, even to a field grade officer? Clearly there is still a lot that needs to be done here in regards to the seperation of church and state. However, after hearing your speech during NCLS, I truly believe that a vast majority of people are slowly “getting it” and we are taking steps towards correcting the problem.
Thank you for your time and consideration to this matter.
Respectfully,
//SIGNED//
