Mikey,
I just wanted to email and tell you to keep up the good work. I do confess that I would have had less self-control at the Air Force Academy when the slurs were coming down.
Reflection here: I was in the Navy from 1972-1976. I didn’t catch any racism or anti-Semitism when I was there. I think I would have sensed it. Granted, my first summer roommate was Jewish and a close friend the second summer was Jewish, but I don’t think any Jewish OC had problems.
When I was on my ship, I was Catholic lay leader, with a side deal of aiding the two Jewish sailors if they had any concerns. I did not try to convert them. I would have answered any questions they (or anyone) had.
I think myself that one’s religion is one’s own business. The insensitivity the evangelicals display in Colorado Springs and the Middle East is breathtaking. They all should go and get some Jewish, Catholic, and Muslim friends.
Thanks for all you do.
