Major kudos to you for this. Personalities as diverse as former PotUS Bill Clinton, Gen. Petraeus, and Pope Benedict have denounced the burning of the Muslim Holy Book. in the course of my job i became aquainted with a young man from Morrocco who was working hard to become an American citizen. When he showed me the copy of the Qur’an he carried (much like my great grandmother carried her Bible) he described it as ” …our Holy book, much like your Bible.” not “my” Bible but he didn’t know that. Point being he thinks of that book in the same way great grandma thought of her bible. i think she would have given her life to defend it.
My hometown of Cedar Rapids, Iowa has a Mother mosque. a rather unassuming little bldg in a working class neighborhood, it has been there for over 120 years. so, obviously, have been a Muslim community.
i celebrate my Constitutional right to be free from religion. to my mind this means i also have to celebrate (not merely respect) my mother’s right to be a Catholic, my boss’ right to be a Pentacostal, and the young man from Morroco to be a Muslim. why don’t people understand that to have their own freedom they must respect the rights of others to have theirs?
