Dear Lt. Gen. Gould:

Prayer is our quest for communion between the finite and the infinite.

In Ethics of the Fathers, we are taught to pray for the welfare of the government: were it not that people stand in awe of prayer, men would swallow each other alive.

It is woeful to empower a prayer leader who disrespects those whose prayers and beliefs differ from his, and in so doing betrays, divides the defenders of our government. Such is the case with USMC Lt. Clebe McClary.

I urge that he be disinvited from the USAFA’s National Prayer Day luncheon and replaced with a speaker who can deliver a message that is inclusive of members of all faiths.
