The following excerpts are from a statement by our allies in Americans United for the Separation of Church and State on the groundbreaking repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell (DADT):

Today gay men and women are serving openly in the U.S. military, marking another milestone in the march toward equal rights for all Americans. And needless to say, Religious Right leaders aren’t happy.

Tony Perkins at the Family Research Council groused that the repeal of “don’t ask, don’t tell” means the U.S. military has become “a tool in reshaping social attitudes regarding human sexuality.” He asserted that the change will “only do harm to the military’s ability to fulfill its mission.”…
