Dear Bekki and Mikey,

Thank you for bringing this shameful display to my attention. This leads to a deeper question: To what extent are Christian “militias,” Nazi sympathizers and other threats to our nation’s security being trained in the military? Here’s an article reprinted from Newsweek that provides some evidence of this danger:

It says in part: “Federal investigators have discovered that two members of the extremist Michigan-based Hutaree militia group charged with plotting to assassinate law-enforcement officers are former U.S. military servicemen, including a Marine Corps corporal who was a Persian Gulf War veteran and decorated expert rifleman.”

As you know, our military provides very expensive, excellent training to its inductees. So long as these skills are used to uphold our Constitution and protect our national security, that’s fine. But, if internal security threats utilize this training to prepare for attacks on our nation, that’s a very different story.
