Christian Evangelicals?

Why does the president of your organization refer to Christian Evangelicals as Monsters? How tolerant is that????

Good evening (name withheld),

Mikey has read your email and asked me to respond to you about your concern about him calling out Evangelical Christians as monsters.

As far as I’m concerned, Mikey was too kind. He should have added hateful, bigoted, self-righteous, arrogant, judgmental, misogynist and in-your-face proselytizers.

First we have to look at the definition of Evangelical.

According to the Nation Association of Evangelicals there are 4 primary characteristics:

Conversionism: the belief that lives need to be transformed through a “born-again” experience and a lifelong process of following Jesus.

Activism: the expression and demonstration of the gospel in missionary and social reform efforts.

Biblicism: a high regard for and obedience to the Bible as the ultimate authority.

Crucicentrism: a stress on the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross as making possible the redemption of humanity.

Campus Crusade for Christ website states:

Just as there are physical laws that govern the physical universe, so are there spiritual laws (born-again) that govern your relationship with God.

The root word for law in the Old Testament is towrah (Torah). It is used 219 in the OT – never in the New Testament – and refers to the Mosaic Laws including the 10 Commandments.

The root word for law in the New Testament is nomos (command).

The word nomos is synonymous with commandment.

There is no such thing as 4 spiritual commandments in the New Testament. Bill Bright made these up in 1952. (1) Mr. Bright has crafted a very clever marketing tool taken from different scriptures to lure people into a false hope of salvation.

Jesus always said “follow me” meaning learn from Him, do what He says and does – in essence follow in his footsteps. Matthew 4:19, Matthew 16:24, Matthew 19:28, Mark 1:17, Mark 10:21, Luke 5:27, Luke 18:22, John 1:43, John 8:12, John 21:19

The New Testament requirement for the forgiveness of sins is baptism: He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. (Mark 16:16); “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins” (Acts 2:38) Jesus was even baptized by John the Baptist as an example for the importance of baptism.

According to Bright’s teaching anyone born before 1952 and those who do not say this get-out-of-hell free pass – 4 spiritual laws – is not saved and going to hell as stated by an Evangelical Army Chaplain:

US Army chaplain MAJ James Linzey, who, in a 1999 video, described mainstream Protestant churches as “demonic, dastardly creatures from the pit of hell “that should be “stomped out.”

If anyone is intolerant it is the Evangelicals who believe they have the only true form of Christianity (out of the 41,000 Christian denominations in the world). When one believes they are the only ones that have the truth they are bordering on being a cult.

Our military is secular and must remain that way. But it has been hijacked by the Evangelicals who believe that they must cleanse the world of those Christians that are not “born-again”, those of other religions and those with no religious affiliation, so that Jesus can come back and rule for 1,000 years. This thinking throws out the Book of Revelations where Jesus comes back with His HEAVENLY Army. He never asked for an earthly army to work for him and said “Blessed are the peacemakers” not blessed are the warmongers.

Our soldiers are being harassed, given poor performance ratings, withheld advancements and drummed out of the military on trumped up charges in the name of Jesus because they do not believe in the Evangelical way.

The Military Religious Freedom Foundation was founded by Mikey who is Jewish (NOT an atheist) and 75% of the Board, Advisory Board, volunteers and supporters are Christian. 96% of our 37,000+ (1 can represent 50 and 1 does represent 100) soldier clients are Christian. We fight for the rights of Christians more than any other religion because their very careers hang in the balance by these overbearing Evangelicals.

Are the Evangelicals monsters? When one professes to be a Christian and does not follow Jesus’ commandment of loving your neighbor as yourself but is out to destroy them instead, then yes, they are.

Pastor Joan

It sounds like he started the organization strictly as an attack on us Christians. So it sounds like he is as much as a war monger as those who are attacking non-Christians. I am Messianic Christian. We have Jewish relatives who converted back in the 18th Century to become Mennonites. Our faith has evolved. Do I believe there are other paths to God? No. Would I force my faith onto another person. No. Would I share it if given the opportunity? Yes. Jesus called us to go out into the world to preach the word. However, if someone says I’m not interested I respect their decision and it does not affect how I treat that person or behave. I have friends who are of different walks and it changes nothing. However, I am apparently a monster… No wait…

You guys are nothing more than haters of Christians…. Therefore your mission is no different than those who drove Jews and my Mennonite relatives out of Europe in the 17th century. And you are not different than Hitler who hated and killed anyone who did not fit into his ideological world. I have relatives from both spectrums who were persecuted in much the same way. I have Mennonite Dutch relatives that were tied up to posts and set o fire and they were brave enough to go down still speaking proudly of their faith. Some were put into small wooden boxes crouched in confinement for weeks as punishment and it never stopped them from going out and preaching what they believed. I had Jewish relatives who escaped Anti-Semitism in Germany before Hitler ever came around. I’m sure we had other relatives that chose to stay behind. I don’t know if any of them entered the concentration camps but I would hope that no matter the circumstance that they were solid in whatever they believed and would not shut down because someone called them Monsters. So if I’m Monster so be it. I would not stop practicing my beliefs for you or anyone else. Your organization is a lie and a joke. If it were for freedom of religion then it should be for all.

Should anyone be coerced, no… but a Christian cannot leave their faith for anyone. God is real and nothing should ever stop that faith or practice of it. To do otherwise is to say that God is not real. A believer can and will not do that. I’m pretty sure our forefathers never imagined a group like you coming to say that while in the military you have no other faith but faith in America that at that point that is your religion. No. America began because of Christians who wanted to practice their faith as they saw fit without government controls.

Good to know we have people like you who want to tear apart that right. I could support your efforts to not have others pressured by superiors. However I cannot support the idea that a Christian American or any other person who is American and carries a belief must somehow give up their faith while in the military. I’m pretty sure God would disagree with you that a man should denounce God for the time that he is in the American military and at some point when he returns to civilian life then say ok God I’m back. Pretty sure it does not work that way with God.

Dear (name withheld),

We are NOT anti-Christian. We are not stopping anyone from practicing their faith in the military. What we are doing is stopping one sect of Christianity from ruining the careers of others sects of Christianity.

You are placing the blame on MRFF when you should really be writing to the Christian soldiers who contact us. You see, MRFF does not act on its own but at the request of soldiers’ complaints of the blatant disregard and trampling of the Constitution and the Military Code of Justice; blurring the lines between the separation of church and state. Every complaint is vetted by Mikey who was a JAG lawyer at the Air Force Academy for 10 years; worked in the West Wing under Ronald Reagan; and held positions in private practice.

Military Chaplains – not Commanders or those in leadership positions – are in charge of the spiritual needs of their soldiers in each denomination and must have tolerance and acceptance for all faiths in deference to their own personal religious convictions. In addition to personal tolerance, military Chaplains must ensure religious freedom or lack thereof for all soldiers according to the 2nd Amendment.

“. . . no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States.” (Article VI, Section III)

When you join the military, some of your rights are curtailed. You cannot claim “free speech” and talk back to your superior. You cannot disobey an order even if you disagree with it. But, most of all, you cannot force your religion on any soldier. Our military is a government entity and must remain secular. Any person that wants to don the uniform of a branch of our military is free to do so with the express admonition from the Constitution to not exalt one religion over another.

The Air Force has explicit rules on following the Constitution.

Air Force Instruction 1-1

7 August 2012

2.11. Government Neutrality Regarding Religion. Leaders at all levels must balance constitutional protections for an individual’s free exercise of religion or other personal beliefs and the constitutional prohibition against governmental establishment of religion. For example, they must avoid the actual or apparent use of their position to promote their personal religious beliefs to their subordinates or to extend preferential treatment for any religion. Commanders or supervisors who engage in such behavior may cause members to doubt their impartiality and objectivity. The potential result is a degradation of the unit’s morale, good order, and discipline. Airmen, especially commanders and supervisors, must ensure that in exercising their right of religious free expression, they do not degrade morale, good order, and discipline in the Air Force or degrade the trust and confidence that the public has in the United States Air Force.

This ORDER OF THE SECRETARY OF THE AIR FORCE is to quell the rampant, in-your-face religious proselytizing by the command structure to make sure that every soldier is “born again”, a “warrior for Christ”, every war a “Crusade” and our soldiers are “government paid missionaries.”

We are not trying to destroy Christianity. We work as an agent on behalf of our soldiers to force our military to abide by the Constitution and all military laws where religious neutrality is concerned.

As far as comparing us to Hitler – you have that all wrong. Did you know that Hitler professed to being a Christian and had the help of Christian churches to rise to power? Did you know that he used the anti-Semitic writings of Martin Luther to justify the killing of the Jews?

Martin Luther wrote a book called “The Jews and their Lies” in 1543. He is the “Father of anti-Semitism in the Christian faith.” In chapter 15 he writes:

“I shall give you my sincere advice:

First to set fire to their synagogues or schools and to bury and cover with dirt whatever will not burn, so that no man will ever again see a stone or cinder of them. This is to be done in honor of our Lord and of Christendom, so that God might see that we are Christians, and do not condone or knowingly tolerate such public lying, cursing, and blaspheming of his Son and of his Christians. For whatever we tolerated in the past unknowingly and I myself was unaware of it will be pardoned by God. But if we, now that we are informed, were to protect and shield such a house for the Jews, existing right before our very nose, in which they lie about, blaspheme, curse, vilify, and defame Christ and us (as was heard above), it would be the same as if we were doing all this and even worse ourselves, as we very well know.

Second, I advise that their houses also be razed and destroyed. For they pursue in them the same aims as in their synagogues. Instead they might belodged under a roof or in a barn, like the gypsies. This will bring home to them the fact that they are not masters in our country, as they boast, but that they are living in exile and in captivity, as they incessantly wail and lament about us before God.

Third, I advise that all their prayer books and Talmudic writings, in which such idolatry, lies, cursing, and blasphemy are taught, be taken from them.

Fourth, I advise that their rabbis be forbidden to teach henceforth on pain of loss of life and limb. For they have justly forfeited the right to such an office by holding the poor Jews captive with the saying of Moses (Deuteronomy 17:10) in which he commands them to obey their teachers on penalty of death, although Moses clearly adds: “what they teach you in accord with the law of the Lord.” Those villains ignore that. They wantonly employ the poor people’s obedience contrary to the law of the Lord and infuse them with this poison, cursing, and blasphemy. In the same way the pope also held us captive with the declaration in Matthew 16:18, “You are Peter,” etc., inducing us to believe all the lies and deceptions that issued from his devilish mind. He did not teach in accord with the word of God, and therefore he forfeited the right to teach.

Fifth, I advise that safe-conduct on the highways be abolished completely for the Jews. For they have no business in the countryside, since they are not lords, officials, tradesmen, or the like. Let them stay at home. I have heard it said that a rich Jew is now traveling across the country with twelve horses his ambition is to become a Kokhba devouring princes, lords, lands, and people with his usury, so that the great lords view it with jealous eyes. If you great lords and princes will not forbid such usurers the highway legally, someday a troop may gather against them, having learned from this booklet the true nature of the Jews and how one should deal with them and not protect their activities. For you, too, must not and cannot protect them unless you wish to become participants in their abominations in the sight of God. Consider carefully what good could come from this, and prevent it.”

Sixth, I advise that usury be prohibited to them and that all cash and treasure of silver and gold be taken from them and put aside for safekeeping. The reason for such a measure is that, as said above, they have no other means of earning a livelihood than usury, and by it they have stolen and robbed from us and they possess. Such money should now be used in no other way than the following: Whenever a Jew is sincerely converted, he should be handed one hundred, two hundred, or three hundred florins, as personal circumstances may suggest. With this he could set himself up in some occupation for the support of his poor wife and children, and the maintenance of the old or feeble. For such evil gains are cursed if they are not put to use with God’s blessing in a good and worthy cause.”

“Someday a troop may gather against them, having learned from this booklet the true nature of the Jews and how one should deal with them and not protect their activities.”

This troop is Hitler and his army.

The prevailing view among historians is that Luther’s anti-Jewish rhetoric contributed significantly to the development of anti-semitism in Germany, and in the 1930s and 1940s provided an ideal foundation for the Nazi Party’s attacks on Jews. Just about every anti-Jewish book printed in the Third Reich contained references to and quotations from Luther. Luther’s 1543 pamphlet On the Jews and Their Lies was a “blueprint” for the Kristallnacht. Shortly after the Kristallnacht, Martin Sasse, Bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Thuringia, published a compendium of Martin Luther’s writings ; Sasse “applauded the burning of the synagogues” and the coincidence of the day, writing in the introduction, “On November 10, 1938, on Luther’s birthday, the synagogues are burning in Germany.”

In Mein Kampf (I read the whole book) Hitler wrote-

“I believe that I am acting in accordance with the will of the Almighty Creator: by defending myself against the Jews, I am fighting for the work of the Lord.”

Although Hitler did not practice religion in a churchly sense, he certainly believed in the Bible’s God. Raised as Catholic he went to a monastery school and, interestingly, walked everyday past a stone arch which was carved the monastery’s coat of arms which included a swastika. As a young boy, Hitler’s most ardent goal was to become a priest. Much of his philosophy came from the Bible, and more influentially, from the Christian Social movement. (The German Christian Social movement, remarkably, resembles the Christian Right movement in America today.) Many have questioned Hitler’s stand on Christianity. Although he fought against certain Catholic priests who opposed him for political reasons, his belief in God and country never left him. Many Christians throughout history have opposed Christian priests for various reasons; this does not necessarily make one against one’s own Christian beliefs. Nor did the Vatican’s Pope & bishops ever disown him; in fact they blessed him! As evidence to his claimed Christianity, he said:

“My feelings as a Christian points me to my Lord and Savior as a fighter. It points me to the man who once in loneliness, surrounded by a few followers, recognized these Jews for what they were and summoned men to fight against them and who, God’s truth! was greatest not as a sufferer but as a fighter. In boundless love as a Christian and as a man I read through the passage which tells us how the Lord at last rose in His might and seized the scourge to drive out of the Temple the brood of vipers and adders. How terrific was His fight for the world against the Jewish poison. To-day, after two thousand years, with deepest emotion I recognize more profoundly than ever before the fact that it was for this that He had to shed His blood upon the Cross. As a Christian I have no duty to allow myself to be cheated, but I have the duty to be a fighter for truth and justice… And if there is anything which could demonstrate that we are acting rightly it is the distress that daily grows. For as a Christian I have also a duty to my own people.

-Adolf Hitler, in a speech on 12 April 1922 (Norman H. Baynes, ed. The Speeches of Adolf Hitler, April 1922-August 1939, Vol. 1 of 2, pp. 19-20, Oxford University Press, 1942)

Two of Mikey’s family members gave video testimony for Steven Spielberg when he did the movie Schindler’s List.

I suggest that before you claim that people are following in the footsteps of Hitler you do a little research and see that it was the church that backed him.

We are not stopping anyone from practicing their faith in the military but the Chaplains are in charge of their spiritual wellbeing – not superior officers. We are not closing down any chapels. One religion cannot be exalted over another according to the Constitution and military law. Nor can it destroy the careers of others who do not believe the way they do. And, no, they can’t just walk up to a soldier and preach to them without being asked to, nor force our soldiers to attend mandatory Christian prayers.

Our military is not like the outside world where we have freedom of speech. That is one right that is taken away when one takes the oath of office to join the secular military.

And you are assuming I ascribe to Martin Luther’s version of the bible when Martin Luther practiced replacement theology to change the words of the original bible to erase all Jewishness. I am Messianic, I believe in the one true God, I follow the first five books as Yeshua’s sole teaching was from Torah. I respect the rest of the books but in their origination and meanings, not in the replacement theology that began with Martin Luther and has continued to trump the truth of the real books. So you are quoting Martin Luther’s words when I don’t ascribe to his teachings… Yes my Mennonites were not to far off from some of his teachings, but they also were at odds with him. Martin Luther hated Mennonites and hated Messianics who were Jewish still practiced Jewish festivals, customs and followed Torah but having come into the truth about Yeshua were believers in the one true Messiah.

In todays world I’m pretty much hated by many Jews who cannot stand the Goyim practicing Torah and the Festivals while believing in Yeshua. I have the benefit of having both Jewish and Gentile relatives. I just know my family escaped a world who wanted to shut them down. Who suggested that they should not be sharing their faith.

My brother was in the military and nothing good comes out of that anyways. He is Bi-Polar with serious learning disabilities, dyslexia one of them. He got nothing but crap from the military. He served in Desert Storm. If it were not for two of his superiors protecting him because they knew he was challenged, he would have been dishonorable discharged because of his disability and inability to always be able to function. Today he suffers weird skin conditions and fiber myalgia. Think the government or military cares? Nope… So I suppose I don’t even care because I don’t have faith in our government or its military. Seeing how badly they dealt with a young man who was good enough for them when they were preying on him to sign him up, who ignored obvious disabilities that should have told them he would not be a good fit, but for whom after the fact ridiculed him and treated him like an idiot for disabilities for which he was born with.

I remember the same stupid recruiter trying to talk to me (my brother and I are 1 year apart) and I told him to pound sand. No way would I be caught up in something I lacked respect for. How could I have pride in an America that is fake. Seeing how they preyed on my brother to get him to join… Maybe that makes me unpatriotic but so be it. I never saw a reason to have pride in America anyways.

I was molested by a neighbor for 3 years and my city chose to cover it up, even though I was one of 30 something girls. They wanted to keep their community family friendly for the new homes they were building across the street. Either that, or he knew someone high up somewhere. Either way they protected him. They talked to me privately without my mothers presence and then lied to her about what I told them. I spent lots of time hiding out trying to just avoid him. They did not care and they represented the fabric of what America was supposed to be. It was good that they showed me exactly what it was from the beginning. At least I did not grow up with any false sense of pride. That was the first time I learned what it meant to be an American and why I would never take pride in the whole thing of being an American. I tried giving it a go but then too many reasons not to love being an American.

Now here I am having been unemployed and having to scratch and scrounge to get back to work since 2008. I was told 1 year of unemployment rendered my skills useless by one too many employers. I went to a staffing agency who tested my skills. My test scores were in the top 10%, my skills were what employers were after but several staffing agency told me employers were not interested in the long-term unemployed even if I showed a past of strong workmanship, long-term employment and strong skills. So for me America is not anything I care about anyways. Only God. God is all and the rest is moot. Yes I am Evangelical but I don’t prey on anyone. If all of this makes me a Monster than so be it. It seems those who would call us Monsters are attacking us in the very way that they claim to be the problematic issues of Evangelicals. So now I work hard trying to freelance to companies who are just as likely to outsource to some idiot willing to work for $3.00 an hour. Sometimes I have worked for as much in recent. Why? Because America is just that awesome. So I say God first and America last, but that is just me. I learned good and I won’t forget my upbringing and what America taught me about pride.

(name withheld)

Dear (name withheld),

I am not assuming you adhere to Martin Luther’s teaching. I’m showing you where Hitler’s actions came from.

I agree with paragraph 1 and I’m sorry you are treated that way in paragraph 2.

Paragraph 3 is heartbreaking.

I, too, was sexually molested by my grandfather so I know exactly how you feel. I’m so sorry he wasn’t brought to justice. My grandfather never was either.

I’m sorry you can’t find a job. I do remember when people lost their jobs that companies said they would only hire those that were already employed which makes no sense.

I am not calling YOU a monster. I, too, am an Evangelical – an ordained minister in the Assemblies of God.. It’s the military Evangelicals that are the monsters because they are destroying the careers of those that do not believe in that faith. They are giving a bad name to the rest of us Evangelicals. I hope you see the difference.

We love America, too, and want to keep it awesome!

I will keep you in my prayers for a good paying job.

May God bless your socks off!
