Dear (name withheld),

We are certainly aware of the recent change to AFI 1-1 and the glad-handing pseudo victory being celebrated by you and your ilk. I would like to direct your attention to the actual content of the regulation. In the previous version it stated in part that leaders “must avoid the actual or apparent use of their position to promote their personal religious beliefs to their subordinates or to extend preferential treatment for any religion.” The revised version reads, in part that leaders “must ensure their words and actions cannot reasonably be construed to be officially endorsing or disapproving of, or extending preferential treatment for any faith, belief, or absence of belief.” I would love to hear your argument as to how that change in verbiage has opened the fundamentalist floodgates and resulted in a loss of any kind on our part.

When I consider the position of those who feel that the change has been a victory, the most stirring feeling I get is far from defeat. Amusement would probably describe the it best. So many theocrats are hailing this benign re-wording as a revolutionary shift in their favor. I am thrilled to let you know, Mark, that you will be wildly disappointed over the next several months and years. Our US Constitution is still alive and well, and leaders of any religion, no matter how popular it is, still do not have the right to use their rank to evangelize.

Cheers,

I’m having trouble digesting the word salad you just fired off. I would encourage you to consider speaking to yourself in silent reflection in the future. Hammering out your incoherent ramblings on a keyboard does little to help your cause.
