Dearest (name withheld),

Of my many hobbies, I find that I am able to derive the greatest satisfaction from deliberate parlance with such eloquent people as yourself.  Surely, your peers admire the precision with which you are able to express yourself.  And surely, if we may have this engagement continue you will impress me further through your calm and masterful use of rhetoric.

Not many people would appreciate your subtle humor.  This persona you’ve created of an infantile, feces obsessed, screaming twit is extremely well executed!  Almost poetic.  I would love to try my hand at it, to capture the essence of your message.

“You Fucking Asshole Idiots!
You lying Shit
You who Shit on others
Goat smelling Shit

There are lots of us!
Therefore wa. Wa. WAAA!
We want to rule the world
And so blah. Blah. BLAH!”

It’s not quite up to your superior standard of course.  Perhaps you could, in time, give me more examples of your work?  It’s a style worth learning for sure, if I am ever to become proficient in the language of your people.

Counting the minutes until I see another of your lovely notes,

Hi (name withheld),

Sure, we’re well aware of the fact that many of the people in the U.S. military are Christians. Most of our members and supporters are Christian members of the military. You see, the difference between them and you, aside from their being the kind of Christians who don’t send ugly and hateful messages to people they don’t know and don’t understand, is that they are secure enough in their Christian beliefs to know the military, as part of the government, cannot show favoritism to one faith over another out of respect for our constitutional guarantee of freedom of religious choice. They recognize that being Christian is part of their being, part of their character, and it isn’t threatened by the fact that other people’s beliefs may differ from theirs.

I suspect they’re also different from you in a few other ways, as well, but there’s no point in getting into that.

Best,

Mike Farrell

Dear (name withheld):

I am writing in response to your March 30, 2015 email to the Military Religious Freedom Foundation.  Despite your insults and immature use of profanity, you make two very important points with which I agree and would like to address.

First, you state that the Constitution guarantees that we all have the freedom to worship.  I assume you understand that we all have the freedom to worship the deity of our choice, as well as the freedom to not worship at all.  Not only do I agree with you regarding this freedom of religion, but so does MRFF.  The MRFF works tirelessly to ensure all of our brave soldiers, sailors, Marines, cadets, and veterans cannot have this right taken from them – regardless of religious belief.  Your email states that MRFF tries to “force” its “shit on everyone,” but I assure you that is not the mission of MRFF.  Instead, MRFF receives many complaints from people serving in the military that certain Christian beliefs are being forced upon them (i.e. that those in charge are “forcing” their “shit on everyone”).  MRFF then does everything it can to prevent such religious discrimination and proselytization.  If MRFF desires to “force” anything upon others, it is an understanding of and respect for the guarantees of the Constitution.

In addition to guaranteeing the freedom to worship, the Constitution also prohibits the establishment of any particular religion.  When people serving in the military are forced or otherwise coerced into recognizing or participating in religious observations, that violates the mandates of the Constitution.  MRFF is dedicated to ensuring that the men and women who bravely defend our Constitutional rights can also be assured that their Constitutional rights are also guaranteed.  Contrary to your claim that MRFF is “not anything about freedom,” MRFF is devoted to freedom and to protecting religious freedom within our military.  I am disappointed that you have such contempt for such devotion, despite your claim that you believe in religious freedome.

Second, you ask if MRFF is aware that “there might be a few million people in the military that are Christians.”  The answer to that question is an emphatic “Yes!”  In fact, over 95% of MRFF’s clients identify as Christians!  Paradoxically, these service people often experience unwanted proselytization from other Christians in their command – usually accusing them of being the “wrong” type of Christian or not being “Christian enough.”  While your email implies that MRFF is somehow anti-Christian, the truth is that MRFF works to ensure the religious freedom of ALL of all men and women in uniform, including many Christians.

The accusations contained in your email make it clear that you do not truly understand the mission of MRFF.  As you can see, MRFF not only understands the religious freedom guaranteed by the Constitution, but also serves the many Christians serving in our military, as well as those of other faiths or who have to religious faith at all.  Consequently, your accusations are simply untrue.  Whether you simply did not take the time to learn about MRFF before sending your email or you intentionally refused to discover facts that contradicted your misguided opinions, I am tempted to ask you who the true “idiot” is in this situation (Hint: It’s not the hard-working organization with many volunteers who are well-versed in Constitutional law).

Neither Mikey Weinstein nor anyone else within MRFF is a “lying piece of shit.”  Instead, it seems that someone else has lied to you concerning MRFF’s work.  I urge you to review the MRFF website to learn more about this dedicated and courageous group of people.  I am happy to answer any questions you have – and, unlike you, I will do so without resorting to profanity or any other juvenile taunts.

Blessed be,

Tobanna Barker

Dear (name withheld),

Oh, man, have I got a book for you. It all but  has your picture on the cover.
Mikey’s wife wrote it. Just do yourself a favor and take a look, then you can
crawl back under your rock and continue your poor, sad, suffering ways.

Or not. There’s always hope.
