The Virus of Religion (with MRFF responses)

Mikey,
You may be interested my title article linked below.  If you follow the sub links you will see how it became personal in my city council.  In this country patriotism is equated with military service, with faith in God being part of the mixture — as you know all too well.
All of this had a certain logic when our geo-political enemy was atheistic communism.  Yet, our society, and its political culture,  has not internalized that now, if our enemies have any commonality, it is a profound belief in a supreme being whose edicts secular authorities are obligated to enforce.  Yet,, a unified Congress cheered when a leader of a Jewish state demanded our active destruction of one Muslim country, Iran, who happens to be the enemy of the most radical extreme movement, the Islamic Caliphate.  Karl Marx’s secular utopia is no longer in the mix, leaving us with the impossible task of choosing which faith-based regime shall  become our enemy.
I reach out to you on this because you have relationships with those who have earned the indicia of American patriotism by military service, who also see the contradictions I describe.  These who are respected as patriots have a greater impact than this man who has never served in uniform.  If there is to be a national change in values to adhere to our secular founding documents, it must be lead by these men and women.

Dear (name withheld),
Mikey has read your letter and asked me to respond on his and the Foundation’s behalf.  Your email to Mikey as well as your posted letter to your city council member are both greatly appreciated and highly insightful.
You have effectively encapsulated our current political environment which all too often values religious faith (almost exclusively Christianity) above the secular principles of our Constitution.  This bastardized and highly divisive view of our Constitution is quite ‘Orwellian’ in nature in that faith-based government is equated with patriotism while those who dare stand up for the secular principles contained in our Constitution are labelled as ‘un-American’.
Mikey and MRFF agree whole heartedly with your concise observation that, “If there is to be a national change in values to adhere to our secular founding documents, it must be led by these [military service] men and women.”  Mikey works towards this goal 24/7/365.  Here’s just one recent example:  http://www.airforcetimes.com/story/military/2015/03/05/air-force-test-on-constiution/24464031/
We are often labeled as anti-Christian by those with the myopically biased view that CHRISTIAN FAITH = PATRIOTISM.  The deceitful labelling of Mikey and MRFF as anti-Christian is based entirely on our efforts to protect religious freedom by forcing adherence to our secular Constitution.  MRFF’s clients and staff are overwhelmingly Christian.  A fact that makes the ‘Patriotism=Christian’ crowd very uncomfortable.
I am a Christian (Episcopalian in fact) who fully supports Mikey’s and MRFF’s attempt to protect members of the U.S. Military from unconstitutional religious influence in relation to their training, assignment, advancement, retention and benefits.  96% of MRFF’s clients are also Christians who, like me, have chosen to fight back against (rather than passively accept) the Dominionist tendencies of those Christians who proselytize or attempt to impose their version of the Christian faith via government sanction.
I often tell MRFF’s detractors that my belief in Christ and his teachings (i.e. faith) is not so feeble as to make me feel the need to prop up my Christian faith and heritage with government approved crutches.  To do so as a patriotic American would be weak willed and would come at the expense of my duty to protect and defend my Constitution and the secular democratic republic it established.
Thank you for contacting Mikey and MRFF with your observations and please don’t hesitate to contact me in the future with additional questions or comments.  I can assure you that I keep Mikey closely informed of my contacts on his and the Foundation’s behalf.
Finally, please realize that MRFF is a very small charitable operation that has had an incredible record of success against monumentally well-funded adversaries who both openly and covertly seek to erase our secular democratic traditions.  Any financial assistance from you or anyone else who supports MRFF’s objective is tremendously appreciated…and provides a huge ‘bang-for-the-buck’ in this politically charged battle for ALL of our individually held civil rights to religious freedom under a purely secular government.
Sincerely
Andy Kasehagen, Grants & Database Administrator
Military Religious Freedom Foundation (MRFF)
