On Monday, August 26, 2013, MRFF Founder and President Mikey Weinstein and long time MRFF ally Lt. Gen. William T. Lord (USAF ret.) met with Lt. Gen. Robert L. Caslen, Jr., newly appointed Superintendent and Commanding General at West Point. This meeting held particularly remarkable significance due to well publicized past conflicts between MRFF and Lt. Gen. Caslen created by Lt. Gen Caslen’s direct involvement in Christian Dominionist activities within the U.S. Military. These included appearing, in uniform, in the notorious Pentagon/Christian Embassy proselytizing video in 2006 and serving as President of the uber-fundamentalist Officers’ Christian Fellowhip organization.
MRFF requested this meeting discuss serious religious respect problems and a myriad of related Constitutional religious issues at West Point where MRFF currently has 177 clients amongst the Academy’s cadets, faculty and staff (137 of them practicing Christians). The success of this meeting (and remarkable proof of the Superintendent’s true dignity, honesty, diligence, and worth) was effectively encapsulated in subsequent correspondence on August 27, 2013 when Lt. Gen. Caslen stated:
I look forward to our future interactions as we at the United States Military Academy strive to develop leaders of character who see themselves, and all those whom they encounter, as persons of dignity and worth. (emphasis added)
Language suggested by MRFF as an alternative to a solely faith-based sense of leadership dignity and worth among West Point cadets.
