I’m sorry I hope this offends you, because you certainly offend me. I’m so offended by your lack of understanding how it feels to go into combat and possibly die that a soldier might ask God for divine protection to come home safe.. you offend the crap out of me.. I think I’m going to hire an atty to sue you for emotional damage and pain because you offend me so much…

Hi (name withheld),

Sorry you’re so offended that you fail to see the danger in the military promoting a particular religious belief system. Religious promotion by a government entity not only offends the constitution and the legal concept of the separation of church and state, if offends military regulations.

No one here opposes your having a religious belief. Many here have gone into combat. Some of them may have asked for God’s blessing and others may have had no interest in that, but all would honor the beliefs of their comrades. They would not, however, want to have someone else’s belief system pushed on them.

You are, of course, welcome to contact an attorney and attempt to get compensated for whatever emotional pain you may imagine has resulted from our action. We’ll be generous and stifle any impulse at laughter.

Just as an exercise, imagine what your emotional reaction might be if the team did the following:
