This ‘Alter Call’ had been organized as part of the National Prayer Luncheon which headlined a well-known evangelical speaker at the base. The intent of the ‘Alter Call’, which was set up by the clients’ direct supervisor and chaplain was to have those attending come forward in front of the national prayer luncheon and be saved by accepting Christ. The MRFF clients did not want to engage their chain of command with their concerns directly since they had been explicitly informed by their supervisor and chaplain that the ‘Alter Call’ had already been approved by them. Within one day of contacting Mikey via the base’s MRFF representative, our clients were informed by another base official that the ‘Alter Call’ had been cancelled. One MRFF client stated:
You could have hear a pin drop. He said he was very disappointed in us all that we all didn’t go up the chain. How easy for him to say as he also supported this stupid Alter Call idea. Plus he outranks all of us.
