I am a veteran and though not a church goer I do believe that a lot of service women and men find those versus comforting. You must reconsider your demands!!

Dear (name withheld),
If people want to deface their dog tags with messages you believe they find comforting, they should do so themselves. The U.S. military should not be in the business of providing them, as it is a promotion of a particular religious view and thus a violation of the separation of church and state.

For you and those of your friends who find it convenient to insist the separation of church and state is not in fact a legitimate and important policy intended to protect the freedom of religion, I refer you to our scholar in residence.
Folks, please help this gentleman.
