Dear Mikey:

I am writing today to thank you and your organization for helping to help maintain the wall of separation of church and state in the military.

You have been in my mind of late, with the publicity you have had with some of your recent victories. Your organization has been protecting the rights of all soldiers to worship freely and without preferential treatment in the US military for years.

I was raised a Christian myself. But as a military member, I am also aware that that there are many world views. We all have the freedom to worship as we like, and not be exposed to blatant Christian proseletyzing at every corner as you have sometimes been asked to fight across America’s military institutions.

In fact, in 2012 you helped me with an issue where the Army and Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) was promoting Christian merchandise in their shop on a base in Kuwait! It was quickly ended by your actions.

I most recently contacted you about another incident on a base in Europe. Once again, in context of such diversity of beliefs in Europe, only Christian literature was prominently displayed at a common area where all military members and civilians could not miss it! You had to look over the material to speak with anyone at the desk it was placed at.

Within an hour of contacting you by email, you invited me to contact you personally on the phone. You spoke of your experience in dealing with similar issues in the past. You gave me the perfect advice to begin to settle this issue in a nonconfrontational way, that appeals to some of the fundamental Army values we profess to share as soldiers. I think it is a great approach.

I wanted to thank you for time, expertise and your past and present help that you give thousands of soldiers across the branches.

I’ll let you know how it goes..

Sincere thanks, and best of luck. I’ll keep watching for you in the news. I chear every time I see you!
