Congressman Mike Turner’s amendment, which makes it illegal for Department of Defense personnel to communicate with MRFF, is a misguided unconstitutional abuse of power.
Many years ago I had the privilege of being admitted to practice law in The United States Court of Military Appeals. I have enjoyed the privilege of appearing for argument in that court. I have immense respect for our system of military justice, for our armed services, and the honorable and brave women and men serving with dignity defending our nation.
The MRFF was created to protect the constitutionally protected civil liberties of our United States armed services personnel. Since its founding, the MRFF has honorably represented thousands of United States armed service members which were treated unequally, unfairly, and inappropriately. MRFF is a proud defender of the United States’ Armed Forces members.
To deny members of our United States Armed Forces the ability to receive, at no cost, the legal protections provided by the MRFF, would be grossly inappropriate and illegal Ironically, Turner’s amendment, if allowed to become law, would violate the constitutional rights for which our brave armed service members often pay the ultimate sacrifice to protect for themselves and others. Our armed service women and men, are willing to pay the ultimate sacrifice for us to enjoy full constitutional protections; why should we allow anyone to deny them the rights they so valiantly defend? The MRFF should be applauded by anyone who respects our Constitution, our freedom. Protecting equal justice under the law is a virtue, not a vice.
