MRFF Stops Marine Senior NCO Whose “Witnessing” During Combat Drill Got Marine Injured — Turner Amendment Would Have Made This Impossible (#1 Trending Story on Daily Kos)

Marine bending down looking like he is shouting at younger Marine who is trying to ignore him

“Our unit’s most senior NCO … had briefed our unit a few days ago that it was ‘very dangerous’ for Marines to ask for help from the MRFF because any who did so might be prosecuted under Article 92 of the UCMJ* for disobeying a lawful order etc. He scared most of us with this statement which was clearly his intent.

“The reason he briefed us on this is because he got the word that some of us were planning on asking for the MRFF’s help because he will not stop ‘witnessing’ his Christian beliefs to those of us under his command while on duty. …

“… He does this even during live combat action training drills. This actually caused an accident in which a Marine in our unit was slightly injured due to the distraction of asking [him] to please stop his constant ‘witnessing.’”

*Christian nationalist GOP Rep. Mike Turner’s Amendment to the House version of the 2024 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), if it is not removed from the final bill and becomes law, will indeed make it illegal for members of the military, like this Marine, to contact MRFF. We cannot let this happen! If you haven’t already, please take a minute to submit our petition letter opposing Turner’s amendment to your representative and senators.

Goddamn, Marines! Grow some fucking balls and tell anyone “witnessing,” especially during training exercises, to go fuck themselves, you don’t want to hear it!

Jesus Christ! It’s hard to have sympathy for grown men and women in the United States Marine Corps that won’t stand up for themselves! You know, “First to fight for rights and Freedom…..” It’s in your goddamn song for fuck sake! How the fuck are you going to “fight for your rights” if you won’t open your mouth?

The senior NCO may be prosecuted under article 134 of the UCMJ for conduct unbecoming! After you open your suck (as they say in the Marine Corps) and say something! And, OBTW, that senior NCO has a boss! And his boss has a boss!

Don’t put up with it. Be a Marine for fuck sake and stop sniveling! Open your mouth and stand up for yourself. Or, after contacting the MRFF, go look him in the eye and tell him you did!

What are they going to do? Give you an article 15? Call you in for Captain’s Mast? If they do, simply request a Special Court Martial and watch their heads spin! You have every right to request a Special Court Martial, a very embarrassing situation for them to be in in terms of convening a special Court martial for something so trivial (caused by the senior NCO)!

A military branch that would punish someone for contacting the MRFF is not a branch worth being in! I mean, how fucking tree-hugging do you have to be, as a military branch, to be afraid of a call from the MRFF? It ought to be the other way around. If you get a call from the MRFF, you know the constitution has been violated!

You can’t be prosecuted under article 92 for contacting the MRFF. An order NOT to contact the MRFF is an unlawful order! The NCO is “hoping” you won’t contact the MRFF because his ass is on the line if you do – he knows he’s doing something he shouldn’t be doing!

Might want to read the Vietnam era book by Robert Sherrill, “Military Justice Is To Justice As Military Music Is To Music!” A few good tips in it for military folks regarding the UCMJ.

    Ironmoped,

Have you ever been enlisted in the military, any branch? Because of the hierarchical structure of the military, it is very difficult to seriously question those that have been placed in authority over you. This is beat into you starting the first days of boot camp. A senior NCO is usually the highest person that an enlisted will come into regular contact with. Besides relaying orders, he also assigns duties, writes evaluations, signs off on liberty and leave papers, and a host of other things that affect your daily life.

While an accused does have the right to request a Special Court Martial, this is rarely a good idea. (Note: this instance may be an exception, but it depends on the command’s officers) You also do not jump the chain of command needlessly. That is certain to get you roasted.

The enlisted could try going to the JAG office and consulting with them about the situation since that is something that is supposed to be available to all personnel, but it again depends on the command and the JAG officers.

Calling these Marines cowards for not wanting to get themselves into trouble with their NCO is mean spirited and bullying.

Many of us old timers remember the >TrainingImaginary Witnessing BullshitWhoTo re- training or be killedNO Imaginary bullshit witnessing has anything to do with it< .
Demote this NCO back to a basic,, wher ehe belongs.

  4. Ironmoped August 3, 2023 at 8:34 pm

    Mark,
For the record, I didn’t call anyone a coward, especially Marines!

I was in the Marine Corps. Do you seriously think I would comment about fellow Marines if I hadn’t “been there and done that?”

Yeah, times have changed and I’m old, but the Deputy Commandant said it best regarding Marine Corps standards recently when asked if the Marine Corps was going to follow other services in giving enlistment bonuses to meet recruiting goals (talk in Army circles was up to $50K in recruitment bonuses). His answer, paraphrased, was “Hell no! Being able to call yourself a Marine is your bonus!” I can tell you in his thought bubble it was more like, “Fuck No! You have to earn the right to be called a Marine and wearing that title IS your Goddamned bonus so fuck off with your recruitment money, we’re not doing it!”

And which branch is the ONLY branch meeting it’s recruitment goals? The ethos is, apparently, still there! I think the Marine Corps realizes that money doesn’t buy the kind of recruits they’re looking for.

So, although times have changed, I think the Corps has done a good job upholding their core values. In fairness, the Marine Corps is a much smaller service. Remember when the 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions were pulled out of the Sunni triangle in Iraq in 2004 to be replaced by Marines? George Bush had to tell them to stand down, they were kicking ass (which is what they’re supposed to do). The Marine Corps epitomizes the “Dogs of War.” If your not going to do some serious damage, then don’t release them! The Acting Secretary of the Army at the time called Marines “animals!” There was a big hoopla in the media over her comments. The Marines replied, “Tell us something we don’t know!”

I fully understand the “hierarchy.” I worked, as a federal civilian, for the Army for many (many) years and deployed many times, in military uniform (as a federal civilian). I understand what you’re saying and appreciate your comment. But if you’re telling me, in the case of a proselytizing senior NCO, a Marine standing up for himself would be “punished,” I think you’re wrong. I think you’d find a lot of new-found respect for a Marine that stood up to Christian bullying.

I’ve seen the Special Court martial technique work. A fellow Marine written up for missing morning formation (because he was on duty the night before and his section chief didn’t know – and happened to be an asshole), and he refused the Captain’s Mast and requested a Special Court martial. The non-judicial punishment was dropped and everyone went on to live happily ever after. In fact, it became like an “insurance policy.” Nobody fucked with him after that. Would it always work out that way? Dunno. But I do know that any organization that condones Christian bullying is not a “fit-to-fight” organization. They’re too busy holding prayer meetings than learning their jobs and maintaining combat readiness!

But think about what you’re saying. You seem to be saying that if a proselytizing, senior ranking member pushes his religion on you, you’re supposed to keep your mouth shut and take it? Is that what you Navy boys do? “See something say something!”

So, with turn about being fair play, the same would hold true for someone proselytizing on behalf of Islam, or Judaism, or Atheism, or any other belief system.

BTW, the JAG is not going to help him until he’s been charged and even then, if it’s an article 15, they’re not going to help him, they’ve got other shit to do. The IG might be of help but in my experience, the IG is there to protect the Commander.

You can tell someone more senior in rank or position to “fuck off” very nicely! When they proselytize, tell them you’re Zoroastrian! :-)

If you are part of ANY organization that allows Christian bullying, then it’s on you! You chose it! I can’t believe the Marine Corps is one of those organizations. If I’m wrong, then my Eagle, Globe, and Anchor goes in the trash!

One thing for certain, one call to the MRFF and a senior leader is going to get visibility he doesn’t want! And you know what they say about shit rolling downhill! Who is he going to blame? That subordinate that stirred up this bullshit to begin with (the proselytizing senior NCO)!

    My take on it.

Good comment Mark. Best to you.

There should be immediate reform & serious consequences if the environment has become so hostile these men & women who, by volunteering their own life, defend humanity from exactly this type of suppressive authority are afraid to simply defend themselves. We’re talking about people of such incorruptible bravery they aren’t afraid to die if it means just 1 more human being can experience freedom.
Their hesitation to come forward doesn’t diminish their dedication or shame them, it’s understandable. The retaliations they’ve surely witnessed obviously leave them reluctant to confront a superior. Being purposefully subjected to cultural indoctrination moonlighting as “religion” tends to have that affect on people.
These Marines could be hailed as success stories for its tactic of weaponizing inclusion by disassociating individuals from any principles that may compel them to resist.
What is shameful, is targeting a shared “commonality” (like, say, spirituality) in tight-knit groups (like, say, Marines) that, defined by differences, promote a diversity that’s generally accepted. Shameful is demanding those differences be rejected or run the risk being isolated & ostracized. Shameful is overtly perverting the promise of religious freedom. Shameful is having the arrogance to systematically erase someone’s moral compass so they show fealty to yours. Shameful is allowing Christian doctrine to have more influence than the Constitution in shaping the U.S. Military.
Marines are looked to as guardians of human rights & defenders of our promise to never allow this exact form of oppression usurp liberty. It’s a horrific irony that thousands upon thousands of Marines willingly sacrificed their lives so that equality & inclusion aren’t beholden to the kind of hierarchy or qualifiers openly being imposed on military installations.

Why, so Mikey can line his pockets with half your donations?

  9. Grey One Talks Sass August 5, 2023 at 8:12 pm

As Mikey reminded me in his email the most respected Charity Rater in the U.S. is “Charity Navigator” an organization who carefully reviews all of MRFF’s officially annually audited financials. MRFF has earned the “100% Donate with Confidence” and “4 Star” charity for finance & accountability ratings for years.

But sure Lalalala, continue to spread the lies you and your hero spew as easy as most humans breathe. You have no credibility here.

Lalalala isn’t making a prophecy are they? I ask because the penalty for getting a prophecy wrong in the holy book Lalalala defends at all costs is really steep, like we get to fling rocks, stones, and pebbles at such false prophets until their life leaves their body when they are incorrect.

    Ah, that was fun.

That said, let’s talk since governance; the Christian holy book is not my idea of an ideal way to govern a vibrant population of many faiths and no faith. Personally I would prefer the Constitution of the USA once it’s been made spiffy with the racism and misogyny removed and a few musical numbers added (I may have spent some/most of my formative years watching ‘Let’s Put On A Show’ films with Judy Garland). Everything is better with a song IMO.

Proud of Texas for booting trannies from women’s sports. Step in the right direction.
No more sexual assaults in TX bathrooms.

  14. Ironmoped August 8, 2023 at 9:22 pm

Texas sexual assaults, apparently, take place in the State House, not in bathrooms. Texas GOP member Bryan Slaton comes to mind, you know, after passing all those “anti-grooming” laws has inappropriate sexual conduct with a 19 year old intern. He called Drag shows a threat to kids, you know, “grooming!”

Rep Joe Barton, Texas’ most senior member of Congress, 68 years old, circulates a nude photo of himself and distributed sexual messages (Kelly Cannon says Barton asked her if she was wearing panties in one of the messages). A nude photo of a 68 year old? These Texas boys got a high opinion of themselves!

Lacey Hull, R-Houston, engaged in multiple affairs before, during, and beyond the course of her campaign season. One affair with Rep Cole Hefner, R-Mount Pleasant (guess the name says it all). Hull, at the time, was married to Trevor Hull, with whom she shares a child (mentorship). Hull engaged in sexual activity with her political consultant, Jordan Berry. In text messages to each other, Hull bantered about the “loud noises” they made being heard by “the neighbors” and “maybe the front desk.” But to the rescue, Rep Valoree Swanson, R-Spring, on a call to Lacey Hull’s husband Trevor, urged he keep quiet about the affair to keep Democrats from picking up an extra seat! Good ole “family values!”

Texas Rep Blake Farenthold resigns after news broke that he had settled a sexual harassment lawsuit with taxpayer money! Good ole Texas values again!

Texas’ Laura Olsen, four times divorced mom of two, stands by former Texas Councilman Clayton Perry through his drunken hit-and-run disaster, but she’s familiar in political circles and the woman state Attorney General Ken Paxton had an extramarital affair with. Paxton had cheated on his wife, Texas Senator Angela Paxton, and even professed to be “in love” (I’m guessing – again!). Good ole Texas family values! The FBI has opened a criminal investigation into claims Paxton abused his office to benefit a wealthy donor (Nate Paul), a donor he apparently got his main squeeze Laura a job with! This is the states’s Attorney General having the extramarital affair! You know, the guy that upholds all those great family values!

The hits just keep on rolling in Texas! All ‘em ‘ere “good Republican Christian family values!”

I hear the Trump cult wishes they’d put Garland on the Supreme Court. In fairness, they hadn’t planned on Biden whipping Trump’s ass from his basement (their words), and never could have predicted Garland in the AG position. Funny how things have a way of coming back around!

Like your man Tuberville of Alabama – holding up senior military positions, clueless, having never served in the military himself, but costing Huntsville Alabama Billions in lost revenue and jobs by way of Space Force Headquarters remaining in Colorado! “How’d that trick play work out for you Tommy?”

Rep Mike Rogers, also of Alabama, held up Air Force reprogramming (budget) requests because the service hadn’t confirmed the command’s move to Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville.

“The Air Force continues to work through funding shortfalls, putting off move orders for personnel and holding up bonuses for airmen who reenlist” after Alabama lawmakers moved to curtail funding for the Air Force. In other words, an extortion move to force Space Force into Alabama! Space Force Command Headquarter was originally planned for Colorado until Trump decided he wanted it in Alabama, to be reversed by the Biden administration for several reasons to include, reportedly, Alabama’s strict abortion laws. In Alabama, all abortion after the point of conception is illegal, to include cases of rape and incest! Course, in Alabama, they say homicide is hard to investigate. The DNA is all the same and there’s no dental records! Alabama IS the new Gilead!

Also still pretty racist, although, the Montgomery Brawl taught a few lessons! Some white boys got their asses whooped! And locked up to boot! Too funny!

What’s the saying, “Play stupid games, win stupid prizes?”

Republicans – “Out The Door In 24!”

  16. Grey One Talks Sass August 10, 2023 at 3:17 am

Ironmoped, I believe Stonekettle aka Jim Wright uses the “Play stupid games, win stupid prizes” phrase too.

    It’s a good phrase.

  17. Ironmoped August 10, 2023 at 8:19 am

    Thanks Grey One,

Yep, I stole that from someone, don’t remember the origin, but I agree, it’s a great phrase! I’ll go with crediting Jim Wright.

It took me a while but I have to give credit where it’s due. Donald Trump is a master at exploiting the stupidity of his base. I don’t believe there’s been another that has had his level of gaslighting mastery (in our country).

And once you’re in the cult, it’s near impossible to get out. Like trying to leave Scientology. No one wants to be ostracized by their own tribe, but once you drink the Koolaid, you can’t NOT drink it! What they don’t realize is that some Koolaid is deadly (Jim Jones).

The cult hates their own “apostates” worse than they hate their perceived enemies because it’s a direct affront to their tribe’s “core ideology.” It’s like trying to convince an “end times” cult member that they’re wrong! Near impossible. You can tell someone they have a drinking problem all day long but until they get to the very bottom, and have their own epiphany, they’re not going to change. Alcoholics either get themselves together, or they kill themselves, much like other addictions like belief in a magical man in the sky that’s going to reunite you with your loved ones after you’re dead and your body has become worm food. Instead of worrying about the next life, trying to get the tribe to admit they have an obligation to make the one they have better for all, near impossible. Religious addiction feeds suffering. It provides the fiction of a celestial escape from that suffering after we die, so we don’t worry about the suffering all around us, the inequities, the miserable existence experienced by many. Why work on a better tomorrow? I know where I’m going when I die! And it will be heavenly!

Trump is the Jim Jones of politics. He’s by order of magnitude more dangerous than Jim Jones. By the time his base has the epiphany (if they do), it’ll be too late. This country will long be over, devolved into the idiocracy of these United States of Idolatry, all paying fealty to the Dear Leader or purged from society. Seems like we’ve seen this act before!

Course, I’m preaching to the choir.

So, for all those non-MAGA dreamers – as you say, VOTE!

Republicans – Out The Door In 24!

Forget making this country what it should be, let’s make it what it could be!

Start with supporting the MRFF so ALL religious beliefs in the military can be constitutionally supported without fear of reprisal!

As it turns out, jailing Trump is not as hard as some would make it out to be. In many countries where senior political leaders have been jailed, they put together a special-built cell (or two), and housed the convicted leader away from the general prison population. It would save money on Secret Service protection. After all, it’s not like his movements would be hard to track!

I’m all for building those walls! And Mexico won’t have to pay for it!

Trump says “no one knows building walls better than I do!” Let him be his own architect! Give him a choice of cinder block or steel for the walls. On second thought, he put tariffs on steel so it’s too expensive. OK, cinder block it is! Except for the door, that has to be steel. With a big enough flap for Big Macs to be passed through. We’ll build him an adjoining shower room, can’t exceed 25 sq ft, for privacy, so he doesn’t have to show off his little hands in a communal shower. The sink and toilet will have to be stainless of course, no lid on the toilet unfortunately, but we can give him gold colored crayons to color the top of the toilet, and the sink faucets, make it feel a little more like home.

USP 2 in Coleman might be a good place to grow a couple hundred sq ft accommodation for Trump. A bit of a hike from Mar A Lago, but, his family has money, short helicopter ride for them. Jared can spend some of that $2 Billion the Saudis gave him. Too easy!

I’m all in! He’ll, I’ll even donate! We’ll do a “Go-Fund-Me” to help pay for it!

70 plus counts and growing! I think his former sycophant, water-carrying Attorney General made a prediction, “He’s Toast!”

And speaking of pronouns, “Lock He/Him Up!”

If the trends around the country are an indicator (the Ohio pro-choice victory comes to mind along with Michigan’s fake elector trials on-going), then Republicans will be Out The Door In 24!

Was it Newton’s first law, “What goes around comes around?” Sorry, got it wrong, it’s, “Trump will not change unless a judicial force acts upon him!”

The Devil went down to Georgia
He was looking to make a deal,
He was in a bind, he was way behind, he wanted some votes to steal,

He said, “Even if you have to make it up, I really don’t give a fuck,”
The Secretary of State replied very simply, “Looks like you’re shit out of luck!”

Not to be deterred, he concocted a grand ole scheme,
He’d send his minions to change the votes, his devilish RICO Team!

He jumped on a Fox News hickory stump and said, “Let me tell you what,
The vote in Georgia was rigged, and here’s what you got.
Joe Biden from his basement, you know he didn’t win,
And you’re never going to hear me say, he kicked my ass again!”

Rudy, Sidney, Mark, get your asses there,
Tell them what you have to, I don’t really care,
Tell them what they have to do, tell them it’s no sin,
Tell them we’ll see them right, if they let us win.

They all went down to Georgia, looking to make a deal,
Hoping to tell the boss, they’d found some votes to steal.

But along came a brave lady, she was no orphan Annie,
Very efficient, tenacious, and bold, the people called her Fanni.
The Devil’s Team, she took them on, never a sullen sigh,
The Orange Man at the top, now listen to him cry!

He moves his hands accordion style, flapping at the wind,
He’ll get some new attorneys, more he has to spend.
He’ll cry out to his base, “send a dollar or two,
They’re treating me unfairly, I’m doing this for you!”

But his base is catching on, it isn’t breaking news,
They know his days are numbered and all he does is lose!

So the Devil went down to Georgia, looking to make a deal,
He was in a bind, he was way behind, he needed some votes to steal.
But all he got was a Hickory Stump, whittled down to size,
And a voter base that lost the race because of all his lies.

Now his name might be Donald, and it might be a sin,
All we really want to know, is not of Mice and Men,
But whether during Christmas, he’ll be in jail by then!

Don’t fret Donald. You’ll have 18 others right alongside you!
