Mikey Weinstein Breaks Silence on Israel-Hamas War: “Jews, Jews Jews; How Do We Choose?”

I just can’t stay mute on this any longer. I have even been asked by Jewish and non-Jewish DoD leaders to end my “loud silence” and to “say something NOW” given the bully pulpit that I have.
I have started and stopped this short piece a hundred times. It is both wrenching and emotional for me to write this. It’s time for me as a Jewish American to talk about the current unprecedented explosion in Jewish hatred.
This time it just feels very different. The anti-Jewish hatred, I mean.

Kinda like the Christian hatred we feel from you? Go fuck yourself.
I personally cannot justify either one of combatants in their 2,500 year old hatreds.
The first reality in this area is the fact that no one can own any inch of land there as well as any where else on this planet, I don’t care what religious belief you have, that land doesn’t belong to you and never will.
once they understand that no one can own square inch of that area then and only then, will end this broken record of stupidity
The current Israel/Hamas conflict is the natural outcome when you put a Trump surrogate (Netanyahu) in charge in Israel.
Netanyahu, and his ultra (MAGA)
Likud right-wing imbeciles have done more to foment anti-semitism than any other faction on the planet!
As the saying goes, “the first casualty in war is truth,” as seen as Israel cranks up its propaganda machine to further exacerbate anti- Semitic sentiment.
The fact is, Israel got its ass handed to it on the 7th of October, from, of all places, the enclosed concentration camp the Israeli’s run called Gaza!
Netanyahu ran on the platform of security for the Israeli people that only he could provide (sound familiar?), and his entire security apparatus was breached on October the 7th. Communication and sensors were disabled, an incursion into Israel took place, and Netanyahu was literally handed his own ass in a surprise attack by the prison inmates! A severe embarrassment for the IDF and the party that had completely sealed off the Gaza Strip with barriers, personnel and sophisticated technology!
Netanyahu has now drafted some 300,000 citizen soldiers that wouldn’t know which end of the rifle to point, the majority couch potatoes and donut eaters that don’t have the physical stamina to walk around the block in full military gear, much less prosecute a military campaign in Gaza or the north with Hezbollah. Not to mention they have no plans! They’re making it up as they go!
And notice that Joe Biden has publicly stated that when this is over, a Palestinian State IS on the table. To interpret that comment, “Israel, we’re tired of your bullshit! There’s going to be a Palestine!”
The “fix” to the Hamas problem is a State for the Palestinian people. A Palestinian State puts Hamas on the unemployment line!
The “fix” for Israel, is a Palestinian State, AND the firing of corrupt right-wing political leaders, much like the “fix” for the United States!
Netanyahu and Trump may find themselves incarcerated in the not too distant future and we can let rational adults make progressive decisions that facilitate life, Liberty, and the pursuit of happiness – for all nations, Palestine included!
Israel has now killed 100x more innocent women and children than Gaza ever hoped too.
To say you can’t justify either one of the “combatants,” is a display of complete and total ignorance, and, quite frankly, part of the problem. Have no idea what the hell you’re talking about regarding ownership of land.
Forget 2,500 years ago, let’s look at the last 100 years of British initiated and US backed settler colonial plans brought to fruition when a minority population of Jews, in 1948, were given Statehood in Palestine by the British – the birth of Israel. You know who wasn’t consulted during the lead up to the Balfour Declaration? The Palestinians!
In the Balfour declaration, “…it being clearly understood that nothing shall be done which may prejudice the existing civil and religious rights of non-Jewish communities in Palestine ….” Yeah, so much for wishful thinking!
But Richard’s dereliction in his dismissal of the current conflict (“they’ve been fighting for years”), shows a profound disregard for human life, particularly Palestinian life, given the well-known disproportionally of Israeli oppression and retribution.
Israel has never wanted a two-State solution, proven by their actions. They want one State, the State of Israel, from the River to the Sea, without Arabs in it! Period! And the Settler-Colonialism is fully supported by the United States.
Benjamin Netanyahu, an extreme right-wing zealot, Israel’s Trump, is doing more to fuel global anti-semitism that anyone on the planet.
Remember Trump’s failure to publicly condemn the KKK? Remember his Charlottesville, “There are good people on both sides,” comment? His failure to condemn David Duke with his, “I don’t know who he is” comment? Trump is another enabler of anti-semitism right here at home, along with all the other racially bigoted ideologies he spreads.
Israel does NOT get a pass on the atrocities it is inflicting on the Palestinian people. “We have a right to defend ourselves” does not
equate to commission of atrocities on the Palestinians, the massive amounts of bombing of innocent civilians, the cutting off of food, water, medicine, aid, humanitarian relief, the incarceration of millions of Palestinians in an open air prison, the stealing of Palestinian land. Ask Craig and Cindy Corrie what they think of Israel, their young American daughter Rachel having been murdered by Israel, run over by an Israeli bulldozer – twice!
Israel’s ambassador to the UN recently pinned a yellow Star of David on his lapel, conflating the “victim hood” of the Holocaust with that of the Hamas attack on Oct 7th, ever the adept propagandists in Israel. To be more accurate, he should have pinned a swastika to his lapel and Palestinians should be wearing the yellow Star of David as Israel kills Innocents in Gaza by the thousands, atrocities committed by an extreme Right-Wing Government fully supported by Bat-Shit crazy Evangelicals here at home, all with the blood of thousands on their hands!
The anti-Semitism is being fueled by the likes of Trump and Netanyahu & his Ultra-Right Likud Zionists, the Israeli Supreme Court having been stripped of its ultimate legal authority, subordinated to the Netanyahu controlled legislature to protect him from serious corruption charges. Netanyahu now has more than corruption charges to worry about in his commission of war crimes against the Palestinians.
Let’s be clear. Hamas, call them what you will, has put Palestinian State hood back on the table where it was all but dead to the world.
And before you supporters of Israel get on your Divine high-horse, being critical of the State of Israel is NOT being anti-Semitic, contrary to your propagandized labels used to quash critical review. So fuck off with your Orwellian fascist bullshit!
From the book of Obadiah, “As you have done, it shall be done to you!”
The eyes of the world are upon you Israel!
Two separate issues:
– Anti-semitism. A chronic blot on humanity, always to be fought
– Anger at the war crimes of the far right Israeli government, and the toxic influence of the Israel lobby (AIPAC) on US politics
Sadly when there is conflict, ethnic groups are often stigmatized and persecuted. For example German-Americans during WW1 and Japanese-Americans during WW2. Recently we’ve seen prejudice against Chinese,Muslims and Russians. When there is a prejudice against any gorup, it should be opposed. I’m sorry to hear that Jews are currently targetted.
Perhaps it is just me but whenever I see the Israeli government hammering the citizens in Gaza all I see is a blacksmith pounding iron into little Hamas agents.
Nothing is created in a vacuum.
In my opinion, in order for peace to prevail a metric ton of mental health practices needs to be applied. Until all sides understand the same language (mental health 101) there will always be strife. Also certain parties need to let go their ego, grudges, and refusal to compromise lest they be the party eliminated this season.
This isn’t rocket science but it is hard. If it was so easy all the Middle East Peace Accords I watched with fascination growing up would have worked, and yet here we are.
Mental Health 101 – your emotions are yours and true to you but they do not necessarily reflect reality. Also – if you don’t put in the work, ones toolbox to deal with issues in life will resemble a box of hammers. Nice for pounding nails but absolute disaster when there is delicate work to be done.
Bart,
I disagree.
I think you’ve trivialized the point and narrowed the focus to only Jews. You say anti-semitism, always to be fought, in reference to a “blot on humanity,” but that “blot” you are referring, applies to, in your words, ALL of humanity. Why the special dispensation being doled out to Israel with regard to anti-Semitic reference, a well used trope in silencing dissent.
Moreover, you explain away the abhorrence of Israel’s actions with, “sadly, ethnic groups are often stigmatized and persecuted,” in absolution of your own responsibility to do something about it, to say something about it, the hollowness of your own thoughts being on full display? In other words, “it’s always happened, no big deal. It’s just a phase!” It’s akin to saying, “blacks in this country are better off in spite of that little slavery thing they had to go through! They were ‘rescued’ for their own good!” Although, in this case, the end-game with regard to Palestinians, is either gone or dead!
Sadly, the actions of Israel, the infliction of carnage, with impunity, using made-in-the-USA weapons, on a caged and unarmed people, for decades, has been so normalized in the American lexicon, that it has all but destroyed the better angels of our own humanity. Our inculcated silence is complicity.
A moral relativistic attitude serves, in this case, as a genocidal fuel, in real-time, right before our eyes as masses of Palestinians are slaughtered, a grieving Palestinian parent carrying pieces of their child’s body, blown apart with US bombs, in plastic bags, the disproportionality of carnage an Israeli “kosher” trade mark.
“See something say something!”
Check out the comments dude; Israel is losing this war; sure they will decimate Hamas along with killing 100,000 civilians , and it will leave a bitter taste of infamy in world opinion that will last for generations.
You should have made peace when you had the chance; hey Israel we are really tired of your shit!
75 years of the most inhumane treatment of the Palestinian people has cemented in the minds of the world what “Jewish values” really is as Israel carries out the most heinous of crimes against humanity directed against Palestinians. That’s why you see “Not In Our Name” demonstrations by American Jews and others in Grand Central Station in New York and across the nation. American Jews are calling on an immediate cease fire and are sick of the extreme right in Israel, having stolen the valor and humanity of all Jews by their actions.
There are many in Israel that should be charged with war crimes, Netanyahu at the top of the list with plenty of Likud and Kahanists to follow, along with more than a few Jews and non-Jews here at home.
From Rabbi Meir Kahane himself, in reference to the Palestinians: “They’ll bow to me, they’ll lick my feet and I’ll be merciful and will allow them to leave. Whoever does not leave will be slaughtered.”
In Theodore Herzl’s own words (the founder of Zionism), paraphrased, “the State of Israel extends from the Nile to the Euphrates.”
Arguably the most racist Rabbi in Israel, Yitchak Ginsburg, in his published treatise on the killing of non-Jews, “The King’s Torah,” “There is justification for killing babies, if it is clear that they will grow up to harm us.”
Here’s how Republicans tack on to the carnage and gaslight the American people. Mike Kelly ( R-PA), supported the $14 Billion Israel Security Supplemental Appropriations Act, saying, “The United States cannot stand idly by while Israel and the Jewish people are under attack!” Did this mother fucker say that with a straight face? What fucking planet do these “let me kiss Israel’s ass” Republicans live on? Guess how they want to pay for it? By defunding the IRS, you know, the organization that collects revenue for the US Government! Where’s the next boatload of money to Israel coming from? Social Security? 226 voted for it so let’s donate their pay and give Israel $40 Million instead!
Write to your representatives, House and Senate, it takes 5 minutes, and tell them no supplemental funding for Israel! Cut off their US Government funding!
I’d like to ask Kelly (obviously not tuned to his Irish roots), how many dead Palestinian babies is enough? Reported 3,000 dead now, in excess of 9,000 total killed and rising, using US-made weapon systems, but what’s the limit? 5,000, 10,000, 30,0000 babies? What number will trigger Mike Kelly to stop the carnage? Should all Palestinian children die Mike? What if it were Irish children? How many Irish children would you have let the British kill in times past? Oh, but that’s different! They’re white kids! Fucking tool!
Unfortunately, Mikey Weinstein and others get tarred by the same broad and dangerous anti-Semitic brush, but there’s no greater exemplar of human values and dignity to be found anywhere.
Hate corrodes the vessel that contains it!
Peace
Israel prosecutes military operations using the Dahwa doctrine (look it up), which calls for the complete obliteration of civilian infrastructure (to include civilians), using overwhelming force to inflict a “price” on their opponents. There is no proportionality in Israeli military doctrine. It is, doctrinally, just the opposite!
The western media and Israeli coverage of operations always mentions the great lengths that Israel goes to to minimize “collateral” damage and in the next breath tell you that in war, there will, unfortunately, always be civilian casualties “as much as we try to avoid it!”
Bullshit!
Their rules of engagement and doctrine are based on mass casualties. The destruction of infrastructure that will take years to rebuild, although, in this case, they’re bombing a completely sealed concentration camp with over 2 million people in it!
“We dropped leaflets and told them to evacuate!” Really? To go where? I suppose they could all crowd into the Motel 6 down near the the Rafah Gate!
The dropping of leaflets a confirmation of their obliteration of infrastructure doctrine.
I guess the Maghazi refugee camp bombing and the bombing of a UN school were…..Hamas strongholds?
Israel pretends that they have to target civilian areas because Hamas uses civilians as human shields. Could the same then be said about attacks against Israeli military targets that are co-located in civilian population centers? Like, I dunno, maybe…..the IDF Headquarters in Tel Aviv? Would the same “human shield” charge apply?
Israel’s Ben-Gvir hands out 10,000 assault rifles to Israeli civilians, many in the West Bank that have already proven deadly for Palestinians in the West Bank as Israeli vigilantes track them down.
Would you be happy with your sons and daughters being sent off to fight yet another war as the Israeli carnage grows and surrounding countries flat out say, “enough is enough?”
The United States can stop this now!
Write to your representatives and tell them it has to stop! If Israel has a right to exist, so too do the Palestinians!
If you want to get rid of Hamas, then give the Palestinians a State. Hamas will be unemployed and have no reason to exist.
Regardless of your political leanings, can we at least agree that the carnage must stop?
I identify as a Jew, and I have nothing to do with Israel. I don’t agree with the founding of a Jewish state in Palestine, to begin with, and I believe religion-affiliated governments are in general a bad idea. I wrote to the Israeli ambassador to the US in April, asking that Israel find political rather than military solutions to violence against Israeli citizens and others in Israel. They obviously ignored my advice. After the Hamas attack in Israel in early October, and before any response by the IDF, I wrote to my senators and representative in the US Congress, as well as the president, telling them I want the US to use its power and influence to promote peace and a just resolution of the underlying conflict, rather than simply giving Israel funding for war and a perpetuation of violence.
I pointed out to all the parties I wrote to that Israel’s heavy-handed military actions negatively affect not just Israelis and Palestinians in Israel and Palestine, but they also affect Jewish people all over the world, thanks to the bigots who blame what Israel does on all Jews everywhere. The facts are that even in Israel there are many Jews who are against the policies of the government toward Palestinians and are appalled at the bombing of Gaza now. And in the US and other parts of the world there are manyJews who have nothing to do with Israel and believe the extremists in control in Israel and Gaza feed off of each other to the detriment of most people. It’s far past time for sane, decent folks to stop fueling violence and work out a plan to promote a just peace that doesn’t cede control to the violent bigots. And it’s time for bigots to look at their own character problems rather than blaming groups of people they don’t even know for their problems based on ignorant stereotypes.
We’ll said Jeff. Your posts are always well thought out and appeal to the better angels of our collective character.
While I’m not Jewish, I admit it’s pretty gratuitous of me to offer rants against Israel at the risk of insensitivities to Jewish people but, in fairness, I would take the same position we’re the current atrocities being committed by any other cultural identity.
I lived in Iran during the last Islamic revolution and, while I love the Iranian people, I detest their theocratic Government. With Iran, it’s a case of, in 1978, “Be careful what you ask for. You just might get it!” Some 45 years later…..”How’d that work out for you?” Shah Pahlavi’s secret police, the Savak, pale in comparison to the IRGC!
I think the same could be said to Israelis. I would add, “Good luck with that Titan submersible you’re on,” Netanyahu’s got the Israeli people on it, but he ain’t gettin on it!
Thanks, Ironmoped. I think your posts are always well-reasoned and consistent, as well – attributes we don’t see in the posts by the people who are frustrated at the success of the MRFF and try to mask their contempt for religious freedom by lashing out childishly at MRFF supporters, Mikey, and the MRFF Board. You do a much better job of responding to them than I could, so I salute you.
Israel and Gaza belong to China anyway
