To Mikey Weinstein and the whole MRFF Team,

I wanted to personally send a massive Thank Y’all!!! to Mikey and the MRFF for always being there for me when I needed someone. I’ve been in touch with Mikey/MRFF a couple of times over the years, and each time I am blown away by Mikey’s willingness to go ABOVE AND BEYOND the call of duty! Whether it’s a phone call, giving me GREAT legal advice, teaching me about legal ninja moves I never thought possible, and all-round making sure that America lives up to its ideals. Beyond my role as an officer in the Armed Forces, I’m hoping to go to law school down the road and become a prosecutor. And between his exceptional effectiveness and willingness to be there for his clients, Mikey Weinstein is the type of lawyer/prosecutor/person I hope to emulate one day.
A few years back, when I was deployed as a junior officer to [LOCATION REDACTED] with the [UNIT REDACTED], I had a superior officer who called me a christ-killer. And it went downhill from there. This is a unit, I should point out had had some pretty severe issues with low Soldier morale, mental health crises, and inappropriate fraternization as it was.  And this superior officer definitely wasn’t the sharpest tool in the shed – he was dumb enough to put in writing that he would UCMJ me if I put in a religious accommodation request. He then later got sent home early for apparently some very inappropriate fooling-around with someone else.
At the time though, I didn’t know that I could have tapped MRFF as a resource. Talking to Mikey after the fact, he told me exactly what I should have done and could have done. And there were options!! At the time, I was worried they were going retaliate against me hard, and many other chaplains were openly discouraging me from complaining. But it turns out there were a bunch of things I could have done. And Thank God for Mikey Weinstein and people like him. These are exactly the sorts of people that junior officers/enlisted (and even some senior ones too) need in times of crisis. Because when all things seem hopeless, there’s probably a solution 99% of the time. You just need to find the people who know it.
And Mikey/the MRFF REALLY know their stuff!
V/r,
