God in the military?

God is IN the equation. Views on God are individual and necessary. Following the call is the deepest part of faith. Rules and rites prescribed by others is tyranny. We believe in faith and love and devotion to God, but we repudiate the notion that anyone has the total answer that can be forced on others.
I am assuming you agree since you would not wish to be humbled before the Pope if you are not Catholic. Therefore, we stand by your rights as well as all others to worship freely by the dark night of your soul and the bright light of your faith.
Sincerely,
Elizabeth Sholes
Dear Ms. Sholes,
Thank you for replying so quickly with the reasoning behind your organization’s efforts on behalf of the military.
Our society has become extremely radical on many issues within a short period of time as it were, driven by people who think ‘out of the box.’ However, as a believer and follower of the tenets of the Bible, I can only assume that these positions are backed by fear. Whether this is true of the people within your organization, only you can answer. But, this is what I see. What was is that Shakespeare said? “…me thinks thou dost protest too much!”
Freedom to follow your heart is good, but forcing even this view on someone is forcing the issue, is it not? My point is that the more radical we become in our views, the further we seem to get from our goals. Are our goals to force everyone into the same lines of thinking as everyone else, even if that means pursuing nothingness? Are our goals to expand freedom, and if so, at what cost? The governments of the world view the masses of people as cattle to be exploited, used, then discarded according to their whims. As a citizen of the U.S., I am fortunate (?) enough to watch world news casts that appear to be a little less biased than our own. The evidence is clear on how governments see the 7 billion people on Earth.
In my small way I try to challenge what I am able to, when I am able to, if I see a discrepancy. And the discrepancy I see, is that more and more, people are the losers when God is taken out of the equation and man’s tradition [sic] is substituted. God, not religion, is our defining characteristic. But that’s another book….

Dear (name withheld)- Mr. Weinstein suggested that I contact you about your concern that MRFF was taking God out of the military. Nothing could be further from the truth as far as what we wish to see be open for the hearts and minds of each and every person in the military. However, he and we are in accord that the military as an organization cannot ever promote religion in any way at all, and especially by pushing a particular focus of religion onto those very same men and women who serve our country and defend our Constitution. Religious freedom for our troops is our mutual goal. There is no room in a free America for anyone pushing their religious views on anyone else. Otherwise whose faith will prevail? If you’re not Catholic, must you pray the rosary if the military decides they want to promote that specific religion? If you’re Catholic, would you want to be called to hear someone preach the Book of Mormon? The only person who decides what religious view to embrace is the individual who embraces it. Freedom of religion, the right to follow your own heart, is the foundational principle of the First Amendment. We must uphold this for those Americans who have put body and soul on the line to defend that very principle. Sincerely,
Elizabeth Sholes
