Dear Mr. Taylor
I read your tirrade, very good, you are to be commended, however I would like to set a few things straight, for the record if you will.
1. I’m 55 years old, I’ve served in three branches of the military (Army, Navy and Air Force), I’ve circumvented the globe at least three times, I’ve sailed five of the seven seas, and I’ve lived and of visited more foriegn countries than you can shake a stick at. on top of all that, I’ve known poverty, discrimination, and welfare, and on top of that I’ve buried a wife, sister, child and three very good friends. I’ve also known firsthand Death, horror and carnage.
2. I have an AA in Business Adminstration, and a Ph’d in life, which basically qualifies me more than most people including yourself to know about real life, I’ve spent three years in college listening to refugees from Haight/Ashbury masquerading as college professors spewing their anti-American, anti-military, and my ever so favorite one “America is the cause for all the world’s Problems” rhetoric, and you can bet that when they started into that I got in their faces and reemed them a new asshole. I have no use for puesdo-intellectuals, and when I said that idiots can get a degree, Mr Taylor I stand by my comments and statements, I have no use for pretentious yuppies either.
3. My experience in college was a classic example of what happens when you give an idiot a degree, my counselor (if you want to call him that) was a self-absorbed yuppie, who had a Masters Degree who was totally clueless when it came down to Veterans Affairs, but him like so many other People like him found a way to screw the government out of millions of dollars in order to placate their otherwise boring and worthless lives, citing their so-called degrees which they are under the delusion that they are smart, A piece of paper Mr Taylor does not make you smart, it’s real life experience that does, and it’s that which you learn from which I have more than most of your self-aborbed yuppies (but they won’t admit that, because if they did it would cause them to question the validity of their education)
4. Neither Mr. Weinstein nor the MRFF is against Christianity or any other religion. On the contrary, as the name implies, it supports religious freedom and pluralism as practiced in accordance with the US Constitution and public law. Its founder, members, and supporters include people of many different faiths and belief systems, If this was true, then why did I read that Mr. Weinstein advocated to the pentagon that they should not invite, Franklin Graham for fear of offending muslims?? and why did I also read that Mr. Weinstein was advocating taking down a cross from a hospital I believe it was in Colorado.
5. If Mr. Weinstein was a Christian as you say he is and if he was a God-fearing/Bible believing person he would not advocate anything that is against God, and as far as the muslims or anyone for that matter, this is our country, not theirs, this is ours and the problem here which I’m afraid that you and various other “learned” individuals don’t see is that Terrorist and Radical Muslims I should say they know that they cannnot beat us in a outright fight so therefore, they are using our God-Given Freedoms against us (FYI Hitler did the same before he conquered Europe) so therefore they either adapt or get the hell out, this is our country not theirs. You cannot make peace or placate a belief or culture that is hell-bent on destroying us and our way of life, I don’t give a shit how educated you may think you are, it simply is not going to happen.
6. Finally Mr. Taylor, this country really needs a revival a re-awakening of it’s grass-roots, and a lot of puesdo-intellectuals would like to destroy it for their own selfish greed and I will attach something that was written by Lawyer which says it all
Dear (name withheld),
Thanks again for your service and your letter.
Thanks for your comments on my “tirrade” (sic). I take some small pride in crafting my answers to the people who write us, and in my use of the language.
I am sincerely sorry for your personal hardships and losses. I have also had more than a generous share of that both in combat and in civilian life, some quite recently, but life must go on.
I am also sorry for your troubles with counselors and college. Quite obviously it didn’t work out for you as well as it did for me. That is a shame, as it would have benefitted you in situatioons like this, where you are trying to make a cohernet point, but lack the tools.
As to the rest of your “points” (at least I think they are meant to be points), I will reply in the order you gave them, so please forgive the seeming disorganization of thoughts and ideas.
1. I am 62 years old, married, with two adopted children (now grown), and as you know, I served in combat in the Marines, which included several cruises (including two WesPacs and a Med), as well as other stints at sea. Between my military and civilian travels, I have seen about 30 countries, the Atlantic, Pacific, and Med. I have also worked manual labor and trade jobs, and at times been less than well-off, though I usually managed to stay under a roof and fed. (Though not always.)
I have never been called a “self-absorbed” or “pretentious” yuppie or “puesdo-intellectuals” (sic) – at least not by anyone who actually knew me. That’s a first, if you were directing those remarks at me.
BTW, you mentioned “firsthand Death horror, and carnage.” Where were you in combat? You didn’t mention it in your last or here. Of course, I wouldn’t know much about that stuff – I was only an 0311 (11 Bravo in Army terms) at Khe Sanh during the Siege – but of course you knew that from your obviously careful and meticulous parsining of my first letter, right?
You also mentioned discrimination, poverty, and welfare – I commiserate, as I have had to endure some myself – but these are all things which I and people like me have opposed and tried to eradicate for most of our lives. In fact, most of the academic “refugees from Haight/Ashbury” as you so interestingly describe them, have been foremost in working for social justice. You know – those “godless, liberal, communistic atheist pinkos” you probably hate too.
2. I have a B.A. in history and an M.Sc. in education, as well as a teaching credential in Social Studies. From your comments, I can just imagine how popular you were on campus.
As to your “Ph’d (sic) in life” – however much your experience may qualify you, it hardly disqualifies me. I would say that judging from your bio, I have at least as much “real life” experience as you – unless you are averring that my life experiences are somehow less valid than yours – which would certainly be an error, given that you only know the brief sketch that I provided you to give you some background. I ommited most of my life’s ups and downs, as they would be both tedious to detail, and possibly to read.
Of course, we could continue to compare notes on whose life gave more experience, or was more difficult, but that would be fairly pointless – at least as far as I am concerned, since I don’t have any deep anxieties about my life or self-worth, and don’t need to self-justify it.
3. Again, sorry for your trouble, sir. I also have known a few idiots with degrees – after all, President Bush had two degrees [one in Business, like you!] and they were from Ivy League schools, but I can assure you neither Mr. Weinstein nor any of my degreed colleagues here qualify. As to whether or not I do, I have to leave that to others (at least those with a knowledge of me and who have the bona fides) to judge.
Point 4. This was all thoroughly discussed in my letter. I suggest you go back and try again, as it didn’t seem to have penetrated. However, to recap: nobody in the MRFF is against Christianity (that would be tough, since about 75% of the staff and 96% of our clients are Christian.). However, we are opposed to violations of the No Establishment Clause of the Constitution. The cases you mention involved violations of that clause. Q.E.D.
Point 5. Again, if you had actually read and comprehended what I wrote, you’d be aware that Mr. Weinstein is, as his name implies, an observant Jew. However, some f his family are Christians, and most of our staff, members and clients are Christian.
As to your “points” about Muslims and terrorists (whatever they may be) – once again: NOT all Muslims are terrorists. Statistically, they are a small portion of the total population. Secondly, it is highly unlikely they can “dstroy” us iin any fashion – unless we keep antagonizing the non-hostiles and start a real Jihad world-wide – which, given the fact the present wars are already costing us about $1.5 billion per week, could become a likelihood, especially if we have to open any new fronts.
Secondly NOBODY is “placating” terrorists. The National Day of Prayer was originally a NON-SECTARIAN INTERFAITH eevent, which would have been marginally Constitutional. However, it was highjacked by the Christian Right (of whom Rev. Graham is a member). American soldieres and civil service employees of the Muslim faith who were planning on attending were appalled to find out that not only was it no longer non-sectarian, but that Rev. Graham, an open enemy of their faith, was tobe the speaker. To put the shoe on the other foot, what if YOU were planning on attending, only to find Mr. bin Laden was the speaker…?
(BTW, were you ever examined for learning disabilities? I am being serious here, not sarcastic. I detect some serious issues in your writing. Perhaps you should consider looking into it.)
Much as I would love to continue trying to cary on a conversation, I’m afraid that it is impossible as you refuse to read what I write, have a very closed (in fact, tightly shut) mind, and refuse to acknowledge any POV other than your own. As Sam Clemens once said,
“Never try to teach a pig to sing; it wastes your time and annoys the pig.”
Also, your communications take almost as long to decipher as to answer. At least your lawyer friend was more or less literate and articulate – but no! I must be mistaken! He has a degree! He must be an idiot!
Goodbye and good luck.
Sincerely,
F. J. Taylor
