I thought it appropriate to send you a note of encouragement and thanks. I have watched your efforts over the past several years and marvel at some of the disgusting notes and threats you receive because you have chosen to help others fight against religious injustice, whether perceived or real doesn’t matter. One of the ideals our nation was founded upon is equality among all and our military is a national instrument that is supposed to defend that ideal. I realize all large organizations are going to have individuals with differing opinions and beliefs, but the culture of that organization should be the driving force that allows us to peacefully address those differences. The USAF culture is grounded in its core values of Integrity, Service Before Self and Excellence in All We Do. Some of the things you have highlighted, if true, fly I the very face of these core values. I do not think and can’t believe that the AF I retired from is advocating the extreme views and practices of those few individuals your organization has exposed as counter to the AF culture. Even when some of them are senior in rank – although true culture sees no rank.
Some might find the efforts of the MRFF as counter Christian – but that is only because of their ignorance and inability to see through any other lens than their own…which appears to have the aperture of a pin hole in a lot of cases. I am a devout Christian and although I might not agree with some of the beliefs and practices of other religions, I do believe in an individual’s right to choose what religion they want to be and who they want to worship or not worship. This is about everyone’s freedom….the very freedom being defended right now around the globe by men and women in our military that represent every known religion to man I suspect. We should be thankful to each of them for their sacrifice and allow them their God given right to choose to freely worship or not. I am glad you are fighting for them and that you didn’t stop fighting for the ideals of our nation when you left the military.
Lastly, I am reminded of the quote from Marine Private Dawson from the movie A Few Good Men – “We’re supposed to fight for people who can’t fight for themselves….”
There is a lot of truth in that quote and this is exactly what you are doing. I suspect there are many critics who may say that our military members can fight for themselves and have avenues to do so. Unfortunately or fortunately, depending on your perspective, MRFF has shown that this isn’t the case. Thanks for fighting the good fight for those who just don’t have the strength or ability to do so. You and your family remain in my prayers.
Sincerely,
(name withheld)
