KARK – LRAFB Gives Insight on Religious Marriage Course Change

LITTLE ROCK, AR — A chaplain at the Little Rock Air Force Base is shedding more light on the decision to make its Wingman Day more inclusive of all faiths, as well as same-sex relationships.

Wingman Day is designed to develop members mentally, physically, socially and spiritually.

Last week, 25 members of the base anonymously sent a letter to the Military Religious Freedom Foundation, saying one of the courses promotes a certain religious faith with no alternative.

Chaplain Lt. Col. Francis Lowe says the day once included a course called The Art of Marriage, which he says is designed more for a Protestant or Catholic parish.

But the base made the decision to replace the course with a different class called Marriage Care.

“When you are encompassing airmen of other non-Christian faiths and traditions, you need something to reach a little wider, more inclusive,” Lowe said.

The Family Life organization developed The Art of Marriage series and after the Air Force’s decision, they released this statement saying:

“While FamilyLife is thrilled whenever ‘The Art of Marriage’ is shared, FamilyLife is not involved in the selection of venues or groups hosting individual events. Any questions regarding a specific event should be directed to the event organizer.”

Why can’t the Art of Marriage be offered to any airman that want to attend under the auspices of the Protestant and Catholic Chaplains. Those men need to be ministered to just like they are on Sunday services. This should not impede them having instructions on marriage.
