Hi  (name  withheld),

I suspect you think you mean well, so I’ll try to respond appropriately.

Mikey Weinstein is a good man who works hard to protect the freedom of religion of our servicewomen and men. He has no “hate festering in (his) heart” as you’ve somehow been led to believe is the case.

You are welcome to pray for him or anyone else, but please understand that the “love of God,” to which you seem to assume special access, bathes all of us, no matter what our belief system.

We see a great deal of ugly, condemnatory hate mail claiming to know that Mr. Weinstein and the rest of us associated with the MRFF are atheists, communists, Christian haters, satanists and any other gory, obscene thing some of these demented people can conjure up. Clearly their messages are far more offensive than is yours, but they all come from the same mistaken position, the same inappropriate judgment, as does yours.

If you truly care, there are things you can learn that might open your eyes a bit. All you have to do is ask and I or someone else from the organization will be happy to clarify things for you.

I wish you well.

Dear (name withheld),

Hate is a strong word and we don’t hate anybody.

What we do fight against is an extreme form of Christianity better known as Evangelical Fundamental Dominionists who believe that they are the only true Christians.

US Army chaplain MAJ James Linzey, who, in a 1999 video, described mainstream Protestant churches as “demonic, dastardly creatures from the pit of hell “that should be “stomped out.”

This is the thinking in our military today all the way to the Pentagon – or as we call it the Pentacostalgon.

The majority of our military clients are mainline Christians who are being harassed; given poor performance ratings; their advancements are withheld; and sometimes they are drummed out of the military on trumped up charges.

These mainline Christians are told they are not the “right kind” of Christian or “not Christian enough” and are going to hell.

So, we fight for the rights of these Christians more than anybody else.

We are not an atheist organization nor are we anti-Christian. Mikey is Jewish (he prays 3 times a day to the same Father we do) and 75% of the Board, Advisory Board, volunteers and supporters of the Military Religious Freedom Foundation (MRFF) which numbers 200, are Christians. In fact, 96% of our 42,000+ soldier clients are Christians.

There is no hate festering in Mikey’s heart but a deep concern that our military obey the Constitution, the UCMJ (Uniform Code of Military Justice) and the Supreme Court rulings – especially the Lemon Test.

I pray that someday soon the Christians in the military will obey God’s word:

Romans 13:1-2

Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.  Consequently, whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves…

Hi (name withheld) –

Mikey Weinstein has shared your email with me, and asked if I would reply. He reads every email we receive at MRFF, but cannot reply to all due to the volume. Still, he believes that everyone who writes deserves a reply. So one way that I support the MRFF is with this sort of correspondence.  I’m also a lifelong, committed and active Christian; a USAF Academy graduate; and an Air Force veteran.
I can tell you, having gotten to know Mikey quite well, that he does not harbor hatred in his heart. Does he harbor concern and compassion for US military members? Yes. Righteous indignation at those who threaten the rights of those patriots? You bet. Anger at the impunity of some of our fellow Christians who seem to believe they have more rights than non-Christians? Absolutely.
Despite what you may have heard, MRFF is not anti-Christian. Not anti-religion. Not anti-God.
We are pro-Constitution. Specifically, we advocate on behalf of all members of US military, of all beliefs (including non-belief), to help ensure that all of them fully receive the right to religious freedom that our Constitution promises to all Americans.
So you see, our efforts are not based upon hate. Rather, I’d say they are about love. Love of country. Love of freedom. Love of the vision described in the U.S. Constitution. Love for US military members and their families.
Would that all Americans, especially those who wish to see a “Christian America”, would have the same amount of love and respect for the rights of those who don’t share their beliefs. Sadly, that is not the case and so the mission of the MRFF will continue.   Thanks for writing.
Peace,
Mike Challman

Dear (name withheld),

There is no hate in Mr. Weinstein’s heart, only pity and hope.  A deep feeling of pity for those who have fallen under the mantle of destructive religious belief that consumes all that is human in them and hope that they will find release.

Religious belief that has reached a point in which all other worldly functions are subordinated has, throughout history, caused much pain and suffering.

It is the mission of the Military Religious Freedom Foundation to assure that all military members are free of religious hegemony and guaranteed freedom of religion and selection of belief.

Please feel free to examine our web site at militaryreligiousfreedom.org to get the full story on MRFF and it’s founder Mikey Weinstein.

Thank you.
