Keep Up the Good Work

Dear Mikey & the MRFF –

I’m a retired United Methodist minister and a citizen of the United States.  I appreciate your efforts to beat back the USAF imperial storm troopers in Colorado Springs and elsewhere.

Something that drives me crazy.  Those who want to “bring this country back to God” and make “Jesus the commander-in-chief” apparently have not bothered to read the Old Testament/Hebrew Scriptures.

Theocracy was tried.  Repeatedly. That’s what the Bible says. And every time it was tried, it was a DISASTER. Not sometimes. ALWAYS! That’s what the Bible says. (refer them to the books of 1 & 2 Samuel and 1 & 2 Kings.)

Putting “God on the throne” always meant that some devious or naive people ended up using “God” to advance their own interests and their own ideas of the way things ought to be. And, as I said, it just turned into a mess.

My take on it?  Religion functions best when it stands apart from the State – and offers intelligent critiques of the values and actions of the State and its leaders. Period. Then it should get down to it’s real work – feeding the hungry, etc.

But these people want to set up a theocracy now?  in the U.S.?  Tell them to go read their Bibles with a little closer attention.

God help us all.

My dear Pastor (name withheld) –

Mikey has read your email and asked me to respond to you because of my unique circumstances to the MRFF.

I was raised a Methodist but one day an Evangelical Fundamentalist knocked on my door and asked me if I was “born-again.” He was a great “salesman” and made me feel lost. I said the “Sinner’s Prayer” and spent the next 32 years – the last 2 as an assistant ordained minister – immersed in it. I walked away over 11 years ago after having to write my own sermons and realizing that what they were preaching was wrong. I know the minds and hearts of these people and use it against them in my responses.

I am back to my Methodist roots.

Your email is a breath of fresh air amongst the hateful, anti-Semitic, death threats Mikey receives on a daily basis. They’re coming from Christians which blows my mind.
One is an Evangelical Fundamental Dominionist Pastor who harasses Mikey about 15-20 times a day with emails. The latest one angered me when his subject line said “Good Morning Stupid.” How does a Pastor speak to someone like that?

You are correct on all the points in your email. I, too, wish more Christians would read their Bibles instead of cherry-picking it to support their own ideas and agenda.

The Air Force has used Augustine’s “Just War Theory” to promote wars (Christian Crusades).

Our military has been hijacked over the past few decades by an extreme form of Christianity better known as Evangelical Fundamental Dominionist “born-again” Christians who believe they are the only true Christian faith and all other Christians that are not the “right kind” are doomed to hell and burning in the lake of fire for eternity. They have been promoted over the years to now have command over the Pentagon and only the “right kind” of Christian has been given priority over Command assignments and leadership. The Dominionist Chaplains make up 85-90% of all Chaplains in our military.

They believe as premillenialists that our soldiers are “Warriors” for Christ and “government paid missionaries” and must cleanse the world of all mainline Christians, those of other religions and those of no religious beliefs so that Jesus can come back and rule for a thousand years – which throws out the book of Revelations where Jesus said He is coming back with His Heavenly Army and then rule.

US Army chaplain MAJ James Linzey, who, in a 1999 video, described mainstream Protestant churches as “demonic, dastardly creatures from the pit of hell “that should be “stomped out.”

This is what our soldiers who are Catholic, Presbyterian, Methodist, Lutheran, Baptist, Episcopalian, Evangelical, etc. face every day. They are harassed, given poor performance ratings, advancements withheld, put on “point” in war zones and drummed out of the military on trumped up charges…all in the name of Jesus.
This is what we fight against.
The people involved with MRFF are made up of many religions and those of no faith who work harmoniously together because we believe strongly in defending the religious rights of all of our soldiers guaranteed to them under the Constitution, Supreme Court rulings and the Uniform Code of Military Justice.

We are neither anti-God nor anti-Christian. Mikey is Jewish and prays 3 times a day to the same Father we do. A full 75% or more of the Board, Advisory Board, volunteers and supporters with the MRFF – which totals 240 people worldwide – are Christian. Out of our 42,600+ military clients, 96% of them are Christian. If anything, we represent Christians more than any other religion.

I only hope that more Pastors would write Mikey with the encouraging words you did.

Thank you! What a wonderful way to end the day!

And if I could ask one favor of you that would be to pray for me as I answer the hate-filled email we get from Christians. And that the Pastor harassing Mikey on a daily basis would stop. Because as you said:

God help us all.

May God bless your socks off!

    Dear “Pastor” Joan,

Since you have gone back to your Methodist roots, I hope you have turned in your ordination with the Assembly of God denomination, otherwise you are deceiving people by saying that you are ordained when you are no longer with that organization.

You say that you wish more Christians would read their bibles, you mean how some Methodists and churches say that homosexuality is not a sin, and they ordain gay pastors and marry homosexuals, hmm, maybe you and they should read their bibles a little closer and they will see that homosexuality is a sin and you cannot be gay and Christian, and that homosexuals will not inherit eternal life. I also love how the Methodist church as also got into divesting from the organizations that do business with Israel, because little bad Israel stolen land from the Palestinians, hmm, how can you steal land from someone who it never belonged to in the first place according to God!!!

You mention above that Mikey is Jewish and prays 3 times a day to the same Father as the pastor, well, maybe Joan if you knew your bible a little better, you would know that praying 3 times a day will not get Mikey or any other Jewish person into heaven, neither Muslim, Buddhist, Mormon, JW, Catholic, Baptist, Presbyterian, Methodist, except only by accepting Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior and renouncing your sin and repenting from it!

Why would you go back to the Methodist church,it and the Presbyterian churches are dying churches and the Spirit I feel has left those churches for their blatant sin and rebellion to the authority of the scriptures. I feel that you may be on the verge of losing your salvation!!

    Pastor Joan,

Every response I read from you brings me joy. You are one of the fiercest warriors in the battle to reclaim the United States Military. While I do not share your flavor of faith, I do share your intensity in believing. Thank you for what you do. Please know I send positive energy your way every day. 🙂

    Yeshua Warrior,

It is telling to me that your responses attack the person, not their ideals. It is none of your business what someone else believes. In fact it is the opposite of OK (means it’s really crappy) that you continue to nit pick at personal details. Is your faith and deity so weak that you must tear down others in order for you to feel good about yourself?

Seriously? Is that how the Jesus of your holy book taught people to live? I’ve read the Bible, more than once. I’m confident in saying you should really read through the book again. I think you missed some parts.

As for the list of sins – you know if you eat at Red Lobster, have a shrimp cocktail, or (horrors) wear polyester blend fabrics you are lower than the homosexuals you love to condemn. It’s in the book. Honest.

In the end, we all have to walk the path from birth to death. It is how we do that walk that matters for everyone ends up the same, even you YW. Dead is dead and no one (except for anecdotal data from your book) has come back to say what is on the other side. Near death doesn’t count. It’s like being pregnant – either you are or you aren’t.

For you to say you know how I must walk my walk is the height of hubris. If you remember your mythology, hubris is not looked upon with any kindness. Please, for your own good, watch your arrogance. It’s not becoming.
