Dear Col. Peterson,

Sir, one of your armed, DOD, Army, civilian gate guards at the Tobyhanna Army Depot Main or “Scranton” gate is wearing a baseball hat with the biblical citation from the New Testament Book of John “3:16” on it. Seriously, how can you let such a deplorable thing happen given how detrimental it is to good order, morale, discipline and unit cohesion, sir? Can you imagine the unmitigated outrage which would have occurred if that had been a citation on his hat from the Koran or the Book of Satan?

The Military Religious Freedom Foundation (MRFF) has received official complaints from 21 of the Army civilian personnel under your direct command about this shameful matter of sectarian Christian proselytizing this morning. Fifteen of these 21 individuals, who are now MRFF clients, happen to be practicing Christians themselves while the other 6 are from the Jewish, Islamic and Hindu faiths as well as some who are atheists, secularists or agnostics.

We realize that you may not be aware of this egregiously unconstitutional action by one of your Dept. of the Army gate guards, yet you are still wholly responsible as the Commander, sir.

Thus, MRFF demands that you immediately order that offending gate guard to expeditiously remove that Christian-proselytizing baseball hat and appropriately, aggressively and visibly punish that individual as well as all others in his chain of command who are either directly or indirectly responsible for this unfortunate event as well.

MRFF notes that today is also the always terribly divisive so-called “National Day of Prayer” and we wonder if THAT fact caused this gate guard of yours to wear that hat today?

Please advise me soonest as to what actions you are taking, Colonel Peterson.

Thank you.

    Hey Mikey,
You are getting so bent out of shape about a stupid ball cap and you want this individual to be “aggressively and visibly punished?” So, what do you want them to do to him, strip off his shirt and give him 30 lashes with the cat of nine tails like they gave to Christ?

And what about this “terribly divisive National Day of Prayer?” What, you do not want people praying for our nation, for believe me that is what this country desperately needs is prayer! Do you know that the verse that is so often used on the National Day of Prayer comes from the Hebrew bible – 2 Chron. 7:14! I bet there were a lot of Jews praying yesterday for our nation as well as Christians as well as moderate Muslims! Just admit it Mikey, you just hate religion especially Christianity!

Let me ask you Mikey, did you pray at all yesterday for our nation??

Oh yes, Mikey, you can demand all you want, which only sounds like you are a spoiled little brat, but does not mean that anyone has to listen to you or heed your demands at all, or what are you going to do, send another letter to the DoD IG, which those probably just end up in the circular file anyway. They may have a special trashcan for all your demand letters with your name on it

The OIG will have to answer to Mickey, JR.

“Let me ask you Mikey, did you pray at all yesterday for our nation??”

What if Mickey didn’t, is God going to smite him?

“………. this country desperately needs is prayer!”

No JR, what this country needs are good paying jobs, free/affordable healthcare, free affordable college/vocation education, and good government. Prayer does not pay your bills, put food in your stomach, clothes on your back, and a roof over your head.

The OIG will not have to answer to Mikey, he is a puny citizen now.

As I understand the situation now, a response was provided, determined to raise more security concerns than provide any resolution, and has been bounced back to the Commander to handle. Protocols were broken; rules bent if not completely broken.

I’m betting this is one hot potato no one wants to be left holding when the bell rings.

***Of course JR believes the military will dismiss Mikey and the MRFF. Right JR, and I’m a rich witch. Bwahahahjaaaaaa!

Prove that OIG does not to answer to a citizen like Weinstein? We still have civilian control over the military and the US military can’t be like the German/Prussian military: A state within a state. Where do you think the military gets its recruits and its budget money, JR?
