MRFF Founder/President Mikey Weinstein was contacted on behalf of 21 clients seeking MRFF’s assistance when their unit commander assigned various tasks in preparation for a ‘Christmas in July Party’. While the unit commander had not issued a direct order to his subordinates to participate in this sectarian religious event, it was made clear to MRFF’s clients that attendance was “highly advised” to support “unit pride and esprit de corps”. The advised attendance was highlighted by the unit commander when he assigned a Jewish subordinate to prepare all Christmas decorations and an “out” atheist subordinate was assigned to play Santa.
A long time MRFF associate familiar with this type of event noted that:
My own experience in the AF was that a commander only had to announce an event like this, or even just make it clear that he supports the event… and everyone knew what that meant…. and it was also clear that notice was taken of who attended and who did not.
With assistance from established contacts within this unit’s command structure, Mikey was able to assist these MRFF clients in having this event immediately canceled. One client described MRFF’s quick results in an email to Mikey:
Sir thank you for working so hard to fix the problem we were facing with having our (Unit Commander’s title withheld) ordering those of us under his command to attend his “Christmas in July Party”. Which was to be held (date and time withheld) at the base (location withheld). Including a mandatory Christmas decorations and nativity stuff crew. And he too assigned singing of religious Christmas carols and readings from the new Testament.
We’re not sure what or how you did it sir? But it has now been totally stopped. Thank you! If there is any attempt to “search and destroy” those of us who reached out and asked for the MRFF’s help we will let you know immediately sir. (Please do not use our names and other ID sir.)
