Mikey,

When the Pittsburgh news broke, my thoughts went immediately to you. When I read of the shooter, my reaction went something like: This is a man who would write a misspelled, threatening hate mail to Mikey. After that thought came a fear for the safety of you and yours. I wondered how in the world you deal with that kind of personal hate on a daily basis.

In the last few days, I read others in the hope I might find words to send your way. Everything I started to say sounded empty and the stuff of cliche.

I read Max Boot in the Post, who was so deeply saddened that this grotesque reality had come to his country, and even worse, it came on the heels of words of encouragement from the President of the United States; then I read Howard Fineman in the Times, who wrote of his naive faith in America  and how it had been shattered.

There were others, too, but it wasn’t until I did something I don’t normally do that I found someone who reflected what has been bothering me so much not only about Pittsburgh but with many other harsh realities in America today. I don’t normally read commenters on the Internet. More often than not, the exercise is pointless. But the Times does a good job of moderating comments.

So I took a look and I came across this: To my Jewish friends and compatriots I am deeply sorry and acutely ashamed.

From time to time you refer to me as “Brother.” I feel lucky and blessed when you do.

Peace,

Fact – VP Pence asked a defrocked messianic Jew to lead the prayer.

I’m not touching your link Alphabet Soup pretending to be Q, who knows what cooties I’d catch.

What is your point, other than to disrespect people who died due to the vitriol spewed by the USA’s current administration.
